Various people (including the Stroppy One) have told me about this, and I kept forgetting about it. Protective memory loss, maybe?

There's a Twilight convention happening in Seattle this weekend. (clicky-link, you've been warned) With, oh Bela Lugosi protect us, a Volturi Vampire Masquerade Ball on Saturday night.

I have the fear. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go stare at my collection of vampire novels and twitch. A lot.

(Have I told you people my theory about the "vampires" in Twilight? They're not really vampires. They're very, VERY confused elves or fairies. Hence the sparkling.)

That makes more sense than my theory of a Louie Vetton jewelry explosion that some how muted those in range of the radioactive infected person.

My husband and I have a theory about the Twilight vampires too - they show little or no traits that most vampires have, and therefore they're a lot more like zombies or revenants. I've been a vampire lore fan since I was seven years old and I get supremely irate about the Twilight franchise and the fact that Stephenie Meyer admits she didn't do any vampire research before writing the books. :/

The thought of RPatt shuffling around going 'braaiiins' made me laugh like a mad thing and almost inhale my candy cane.

You know what I really love about this con?

The centerpiece contest.

I had no idea centerpieces mattered so much to vampires and werewolves.

From: [identity profile] domichan.livejournal.com

Yes. I...didn't quite understand what that was all about. Still don't. Can someone please explain what a centerpiece contest is doing in a Twilight convention?

You're not going? I mean, considering you taking the Forks pilgrimage 'n all...

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I went on the sparkly road trip out of affection for [livejournal.com profile] domestinatrix, and out of a sense of pop-culture investigation. The idea of a Twilight-themed CreationCon just makes me shake my head in woe at the state of my favorite fiction genre.

Re: WE ARE NOT GOING

NO, WE ARE NOT GOING.

::shudder::

Wait, we are the Volturi? Ah-ha! I thought Aro in the damn book seemed familiar ...

Fairy premise is one of the top ones I've heard.

From: [identity profile] marc17.livejournal.com

I like the idea that they are actually blood drinking fey. That almost makes sense.

From: [identity profile] bork.livejournal.com

Yes. Blood drinking fey who live in...Forks.

Makes total and complete sense.

I'm not sure where Ms Meyer got the idea from. I had to get ridd off all 4 twilight books after I read them as I felt dirty having them in the house

From: [identity profile] mahariel.livejournal.com

I paid $1 each for the four books, and still feel cheated. They're still sitting around waiting for me to decide how I should get my revenge.

i hope that you've fortified the bunker you'll need to avoid the Twi-Tards throughout the weekend...complete with cyanide tablets if they breech your perimeter...godspeed!

From: [identity profile] tinkerbell86ca.livejournal.com

*shudder*

I feel your pain . . . eeewwwwwwwwwwwwww! I'd go . . . but only to giggle at people. I know, mean, but . . . Twilight=lame!

You will get through it . . . you will!

From: [identity profile] tauren-wardrums.livejournal.com

I honestly believe that I have to vomit now, and I live on the complete opposite side of the country.

I think it's a sympathy vomit, really.

From: [identity profile] tinkerbell86ca.livejournal.com

I almost did the same . . . and I live in Ontario Canada.

From: [identity profile] reddheart.livejournal.com

Incidentall, the same company running your TwiCon ran one here as well. We survived, apparently.

It was actually scarier when Mr. Sparklypants himself showed up at the Hot Topic or whatever it was to sign autographs in one of the malls. Chaos and mass hysteria I tell you!

From: [identity profile] miss-lisa-ma.livejournal.com

not really vampires. They're very, VERY confused elves or fairies. Hence the sparkling.

That made my day.

From: [identity profile] sistawendy.livejournal.com

Confused elves or fairies claiming to be vampires makes a lot of sense. A lot of confused mail-to-female transsexuals join the military.

From: [identity profile] mina5643.livejournal.com

Confused fey is about what I've been saying.

Where are our good classical horror/non-horror vampire authors? I refuse to believe that all the good stories have already been written.

From: [identity profile] heir-of-timur.livejournal.com

The only thing I know about Twilight is that the wolf boy actor person is pretty darn hot.

Hi, btw! I stumbled upon your journal a few days ago and it's been a very fun and entertaining read :)

From: [identity profile] luna-moonstone.livejournal.com

HAHAHAHA! Your theory about Twilight "vampires" makes more sense than all of the books, movies, and their associated counterparts combined!!! *Loves it!*

From: [identity profile] elfstar18.livejournal.com

I quoted you on my eljay. I hope you do not mind.

From: [identity profile] aka-paloma.livejournal.com

Sure, that's pretty scary and I feel for you. But do you want to hear the really horrifying news? Peter Murphy will have a cameo in Eclipse. Yes. THAT Peter Murphy, not some random actor who just happens to have the same name. I only learned of this last night and I AM IN DESPAIR!

Well, crap! THAT explains everything right there!

Jill go to the con and leave your flyers at the entrance

Do not pay to get in, but leave flyers for the book and web site in the lobbie of the con.

There going to make so much money off this con its sad. But the type there will buy your book as well so take advantage of it.

I approve of this Faire idea as it suddenly makes them make sense. I look forward to the Twilight fad being over, This type of vampire is liken to boy band crazyness ,people only liked them for a few years and they where done.

From: [identity profile] strawberry-goth.livejournal.com

Definitely confused fae...

Peter Murphy as a sparkly "vampire"?! That image is going to haunt me forever... *twitches*

From: [identity profile] snobahr.livejournal.com

Nothing to do with Twilight.

You know, my mom has this sparkly body powder. I just assumed that the Twilight "vampires" wore that and liked to pretend it was an actual characteristic of theirs. (I mean, I haven't finished reading the series which, as a future high school librarian I feel like I better do to be connected, but is there ever any evidence that they sparkle naturally and not artificially? I bet not.)

And, in the same vein as what [livejournal.com profile] glittersavvy said, I like that in 2003, when she thought up the notion of what a challenge it would be to be a vampire loving a human and at the same time hungering for her blood, that Stephanie Meyer thought this was a new story. I wonder how many times it'd already been done at that point.
