I totally agree with your advice about finding things in mainstream shops and charity shops. I'm a big fan of this because I can't actually afford the designer goth stuff yet, but it also has its advantages. Not only does it make me feel less costumey, but I take a certain amount of pride in turning heads when everything except for a few accessories or maybe one big statement item (i.e. a bustle skirt from Fan Plus Friend) came from the same shops they go to. :)

Exactly! The majority of my gothy jackets/waistcoats/blouses all have come from mainstream or charity shops. I customize them, tailor them, and sometimes soak them in RIT dye to get the effect I want, but they all started out as "normal" clothing.

ha! i'd point you toward various western-wear shops (including the one connected to the Gentleman's Emporium, which you link), but there aren't that many spaghetti-western goths these days. maybe i can change that.

*sigh* Yes. Shopping for 'goth' clothing.

Personally when I talk about going gothic I find that people have a hard time distinguishing 'goth' from 'gothic'. Because one is the base word of the other. But in terms of styles these things are quite differnt.

I find the local Wal-Mart. K-Mart and Target to be perfectly fince sources of wearables.

And there's nothing wrong with going to your local Party City for bits and bobs during the Hallowed season. Though I wish the top hats came a bit smaller in size.

I'm still kicking myself for not getting those squared red and purple lensed glassed last year. Now I cannot locate any easily. Sigh.
