Speak to me of the Wii Fit, peoples. [livejournal.com profile] girlgoth demonstrated hers for me, and I admit, I am intrigued. I'd been idly thinking about finding out more about them for a while, and actually seeing one and how it works has made me even more curious.

Which leads me to the second part of the question. So, if I DID decide I wanted to get one, where would I find the best price on the whole thing: the Wii + the Wii Fit bundle?

*For those of you who are wondering why I am mildly amused to find myself asking about a Wii: I am NOT a video gamer. They just don't interest me. I will admit, I had fun singing along with Rock Band, but even that didn't fill me with the urge to play it lots and lots. So the fact that I am even contemplating getting a video game system for myself is possibly one of the modern signs of the apocalypse.

The Wii Fit is fun, but I hate that the little person mocks you if you miss a workout. Makes one want to smack a bitch. The yoga poses are good, but if you're in the slightest bit familiar with yoga, the order in which they unlock the poses that are available to use makes no sense.

I've had the most fun with the competitive games like the hula hoop and the slalom. I get so caught up in the fun of it, I forget I'm exercising.

LOL! I am pretty muscular, and I tell her to shut up everytime I do my BMI and she says "that's obese!" in such a cheerful way. My husband gets "that's overweight" and he *isn't*, so I don't feel so bad. Also, the guy trainer is totally snarky if you start slacking off or are bad at the exercises. I've been doing it everyday, and have the girl and she's pretty mild. ;)

Mine is the penguin one, the slalom skiing, and the step aerobics. I hate the bubble one though. grrr...stupid bees :P

Amazon is always your best bet, try here (http://www.amazon.com/Wii-nintendo/dp/B0009VXBAQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1235421025&sr=1-1) (clicky link) to first acquire the console and then lookup Wii Fit for random accessories like the balance board, mat and other things. In the case of [livejournal.com profile] staxxy , they just announced the Wii pom poms.

Best Buy tends to have really good prices on things. If you can't go through an employee.

also - YAY!

My sister got one over Christmas (er, post-Christmas. Fake Christmas. While I was there we called it Christmas). And it was much fun. I don't know that I was getting super FIT doing the stuff, because the ones we thought were really fun were not really the ...fit-inducing... ones (we liked the balance ones, not the aerobic ones or the yoga or strength ones). But still, I suspect doing that for 30 minutes would still be a lot better for me than, um, reading LJ. Or obsessively refreshing b.org. IJS.

I seem to remember you enjoying crashing things when we all played Burnout together.

We have a Wii Fit and Kristin really enjoys it. I need to get into the habit of using it. I'm sure my trainer has a hit out on me at this point.

Fit is nice...

...but it's kinda light-duty.

however, it's EXCELLENT for things like yoga and balance/core "management" training. Some of the balance and yoga exercises are exhausting. Just don't worry about strength training, except as a warmup for something more focused.

I haven't even set up my Wii in months...the balance-board is leaning against the wall, very forlorn.

They really should be paying me. ;)

*grin*

You know, I was thinking about you when I was on the Wii Fit today, and was wondering if you were still toying with the idea of getting one. I really didn't feel like 'working out', but I did the body test and then thought..."well, maybe I could just see if I can get a high score on a game"...and then suddenly it was about 45 min later and I got my 30min of activity in.

I also did the free step one while watching tv today (in addition to my 30 min), and OMG I loved it. I only did the 10 min one, but the trainer (on the remote) would come on everytime I hit another hundred steps, or to remind me to keep my shoulders back, to tell me I'm halfway with time, etc. I think I might try the 20 or 30 on Thursday so I can keep moving while watching 30 Rock...lol.

I'd love to be able to get one of the dance games sometime too, because the step ones are my favorite. They get can get me moving, raise my heart rate, and I don't even notice!

If you want to come over sometime and try mine out (and make a Mii) for yourself, I'd even give you a ride. ;)

I did see some stuff at Costco this weekend, but paid no attention to price as I am so not a gamer girl either.

I would um, ask someone who kind of works there *hint hint* to pick you up one...

The place I will be staying at in March will have a Wii Fit. I can give you my take on it (both personally and professionally) if you would like.

Oh! Your professional opinion about it would be HUGELY helpful to me. Thank you, hon!
