I had hoped, but to actually HAVE IT HAPPEN!

There are fireworks going off all over my neighborhood. This is fantastic.

Re: !!!!

Tell Curse thank you for the text earlier today! I had sent in my ballot last week, but I appreciated the sentiment. :)

watching the concession speech from McCain now. It's seriously bringing tears to my eyes. He is trying to instill a sense of "one nation" to all of his supporters and offering his support to Obama through his presidency. I don't think he would be a good president at all, but he does seem to be a fairly good man (well, other than his prejudices, which I partially chalk up to his age).

it really was. After the last several issues with republicans demanding recounts, suing for office, and generally throwing tantrums when they lose, it was a breath of fresh air.

and long over due.

I teared up and screamed and did a happy dance. I am just floored. I am so happy. I've never been prouder of my country.

One of the things going through my head is the rest of the world looking at us and going "Oh good, you're not all complete whack-a-loons".

CNN was showing people in Sydney, Aus cheering in the streets. Sydney! Not even Americans, and they're overjoyed just as much as people in NYC.

It's like New Year's Eve. The ball's dropped, a new age has dawned, and people are ready to celebrate and drink and cheer all over the world.

Glued as I was to the BBC, sometime this morning a weird, dare I say Obamaesque calm descended upon me. I never seriously doubted it for the last few weeks.

That said, in the weeks after McCain picked Palin, I was a little nervous. I remember around then when Chelsea Handler said on her show, "We're going to elect a black man president." Her audience was silent, and I gasped too, but it was Handler's attitude that eventually won the day.

I was oddly superstitious, like if something said could jinx things. But! President Obama!
