I am incredibly tired and have what feels like the beginning of a migraine. I can only hope another pot of strong tea will ward it off. However, the tiredness and the head-hurty means this post will probably be a bit, um, jumbled.

---

Artwalk last night was mostly fun. Ann's show was stunning, and it was nice to see people. The non-fun bit was being surrounded by mobs of drunk (or soon-to-be-drunk) hipsters.

---

Oh, how I wish I was in NYC! Why? Because the Fashion Institute of Technology's "Gothic: Dark Glamour" (clicky-link!) show opens today. [livejournal.com profile] kambriel is featured in it, and I am SO excited for her. (Eventually, when I rule the world, I am going to have Kambriel design most of my wardrobe.) I hope everyone who is there for the opening event (and it's a fair few of you people I'm very fond of!) have a wonderful time. Take lots and LOTS of photos!

---

According to [livejournal.com profile] tolkiencub, CNN has video of the giant mecha-spider in Liverpool, and that it has "claimed its first victim". CLAIMED ITS FIRST VICTIM, PEOPLE. IT IS OUT TO TRY AND KILL US ALL. Why no, I am not going to go look for the video of it, thanks.

EDITED TO ADD: Apparently "claimed its first victim" means someone crashed their car because they were distracted by it, not that it is off eating people. That makes me feel only marginally better, and I still want a goddamn pulse rifle.

Okay, more tea. And something medicinal to ward off this headache.

I have a crush on your "I warned you people this would happen" tag.

got the KIB with you?

boo migraine. And yeah, the drunken mobs of hipsters were made of lame last night.

Are you going to get to see the exhibit at all? Their event copy makes me want to kick somebody in the slats. (A drunken hipster would do nicely.)

I hope you feel better soon!

Probably not, but I am absolutely going to buy the book that details the exhibit.

Oooh wow- FIT has online courses.

SO tempted!

From: [identity profile] keridwen.livejournal.com

Gah! I wish I'd known about the FIT thing, because I have a friend (who was at the wedding, incidentally) who is in NY for Fashion Week as a photographer. I'd have told her that she *had* to go to the show and take lots of pics for me. <grin>

1) There needs to be a gigantic cat to pounce on the giant spider.
2) I'll join your rifle brigade when they release the giant rat.

So, the giant spider caused someone to be distracted and crash their car?

Huh, you & the giant spider have something in common.

...

What? Stop screaming, woman!

I went and watched the video. It's actually quite beautiful and balletic. It doesn't seem to move all that closely to the real thing though, and it's weight isn't supported on it's legs; there's a large supporting structure hanging down from its body to a truck.

Still, it's impressive, just not quite the wonder of science it might have been.

I watched the clip on the BBC news website and was disappointed. I was hoping for something more mecha-spider and less marionette.

"...goddamn.."
Young lady, I'm shocked, such language! ;)

Hope the migraine goes away quickly.

::still laughing from the "I warned you people this would happen" rant::

The exhibit was amazing, quite tasteful, and I had to fight not to abscond with certain outfits. Dr. Valerie Steele was not only such a sweetheart to speak with, but so amazing in her perception and intelligence on all things fashion and the underlying stories they hold. Preview copy of the book is gorgeous, you will not be disappointed! Full page of one of Kambriel's outfits as well.

Ooh, I just made my first Kambriel purchase (http://www.flickr.com/photos/yelahneb/2756342523/in/set-72157606693730534/) a couple months ago. I'm so not goth, but it worked perfectly at the music festival I attended in Canada.

Speaking of Dark Artwork...

...I need to talk to you, your husband, or both.

The Art Institute of Seattle - where I taught until last week - just laid off a large percentage of its faculty, including Yours Truly. I've applied for a job at WotC, but would like to know who I can talk to around there face-to-face.

Please give me a heads-up, either here or through my LJ.

Much thanks, gracious lady! :)
