I gave the Stroppy One one of his Christmas presents. [livejournal.com profile] clovisdvlbunny would like to claim it for his own, saying "best minion ever!"

Happy holidays, everyone!

My honorary big brother [livejournal.com profile] caliban1227 just sent this to me. Yes, it is a real holiday tour thing. I've bolded the important "OH GOOD GOD NO" section.

"Join Alki Tours on Santa Express To The Zoolights

December 6 2008
$79 adults/ children $54

A magical day awaits as we board the Christmas Train bound for Tacoma. With bells ringing and carolers singing were sure to be seeing St. Nick on the train. If your child has been good, the jolly old man has a package awaiting (if not, a lump of coal). The Cascades train will wind along the tracks on its way to Tacoma. Then Santa and his elves whisk you away to Pt. Defiance Zoo to rendezvous with the reindeer. Delight in the dazzling display of half a million colored lights shimmering in the night. See the huge replica of Mt. Rainier and cross through a myriad of lights into a dreamland of giant spiders! In the early evening our magical train whistles in and carries us home. The tour includes: train transportation, a snack pack, lots of entertainment and admissions."

I ... I can't even. "DREAMLAND OF GIANT SPIDERS". THAT IS NOT WHIMSICAL OR FULL OF HOLIDAY MAGIC. THAT IS FULL OF THE STUFF OF NIGHTMARES.

Dear Sandy Claws,

you probably should have the lawyer elves contact these crazy people, and have them stop perpetrating terror in your name.

Love,

I am incredibly tired and have what feels like the beginning of a migraine. I can only hope another pot of strong tea will ward it off. However, the tiredness and the head-hurty means this post will probably be a bit, um, jumbled.

---

Artwalk last night was mostly fun. Ann's show was stunning, and it was nice to see people. The non-fun bit was being surrounded by mobs of drunk (or soon-to-be-drunk) hipsters.

---

Oh, how I wish I was in NYC! Why? Because the Fashion Institute of Technology's "Gothic: Dark Glamour" (clicky-link!) show opens today. [livejournal.com profile] kambriel is featured in it, and I am SO excited for her. (Eventually, when I rule the world, I am going to have Kambriel design most of my wardrobe.) I hope everyone who is there for the opening event (and it's a fair few of you people I'm very fond of!) have a wonderful time. Take lots and LOTS of photos!

According to [livejournal.com profile] tolkiencub, CNN has video of the giant mecha-spider in Liverpool, and that it has "claimed its first victim". CLAIMED ITS FIRST VICTIM, PEOPLE. IT IS OUT TO TRY AND KILL US ALL. Why no, I am not going to go look for the video of it, thanks.

EDITED TO ADD: Apparently "claimed its first victim" means someone crashed their car because they were distracted by it, not that it is off eating people. That makes me feel only marginally better, and I still want a goddamn pulse rifle.

Okay, more tea. And something medicinal to ward off this headache.
La Machine (clicky-link) is the artist collective that created The Sultan's Elephant (you remember, the time-traveling mechanical elephant that was in London in 2006).

On the other hand ... I just read a news story about their newest project. Hoo-boy, am I glad I'm not in Liverpool. Why? Because there's a giant mechanical spider on the side of an office building. From the BBC article:

The spider is believed to be "waking up" on Friday.

It will descend from its current position on the side of Concourse House on Thursday to be moved to the city's new arena, before coming to life on Friday.

The creature will then begin exploring the city later that evening.

COMING TO LIFE. EXPLORING THE CITY. OH LOOK, THE STUFF OF MY NIGHTMARES, COMING TRUE.

::twitches::
