So, are these overwhelming feelings of exhaustion and wooziness a sign of me coming down with something, or PMS? I don't know! Either way, I'm going to take it easy; if I do go for a walk today (which I know, I should), it will be a slow one.

I move to my new building (42) on November 15th. Which means packing, ugh. But it turns out that I will still have my own office, so no having to worry that my assorted posters, spo0o0o0o0oky postcards, and toy monsters will unnerve a new office-mate.

The best comment on the EGL headdress I linked to yesterday came from [livejournal.com profile] domestinatrix: Is there a nicer way to say 'mutton dressed as parlor maid fetish lamb'? Exactly the sort of sanity check I needed. I mean, I still think those sorts of headdress-things are cute, but now I will stop trying to figure out what they'd look like on me.

Today's outfit was put together with the intent of distracting me from my feeling unwell. [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage said I look like a somewhat stern governess. (Yes, that *is* a compliment in our household.)

  • Black leather granny boots, laced with pink ribbons.

  • Black tights, worn under black cotton stockings with pink and black ribbons at the top. (Layers for warmth are important when you wear knee-length skirts.)

  • Black high-waisted knee-length ruffly skirt (from Retroscope), worn over fluffy pink knee-length petticoats.

  • Black and pink vertically-striped menswear-style silk blouse. (It was originally black and white striped, until it soaked in a stockpot full of pink dye.) The cuffs of the blouse are closed with silver cufflinks in the shape of gargoyle heads.

  • Black military-style waistcoat: two rows of silver buttons, no lapels, and a square-ish neckline. (An early birthday present from [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre, and I lurrrrves it!)

  • At the collar of the blouse, a black Chantilly lace and pink velvet ribbon jabot, which is decorated with an antique rhinestone and pearl brooch. (A one-of-a-kind piece by Louise Black designs.)

  • Other jewelry/accessories: black lace fingerless mitts with silver skull ornaments on them, the usual giant rings, and the usual antique mini pocket watch necklace. (The reason I wear it almost every day is because it is a family heirloom from my dad's side of the family. It comes from my great-great grandmother. My grandmother gave it to me a few years ago.)

  • Hair once again just worn down, with no hat or hair accessories.

  • Makeup: YSL Touche Eclat, translucent powder, MAC "Pink Opal" pigment on my lids with "Sketch" (a dark burgundy) very lightly blended into the crease. Black liquid eye liner on the top, MAC "Raven" pencil smudged with Aromaleigh's "gothic" powder on the bottom, DiorShow mascara, and NARS "Scarlet Empress" lipstick. Oh, and glasses, because the idea of putting in my contacts made me wince.

My former office-mate has already agreed to take a photo of this outfit. I'll try and get the picture posted tonight.

And now it is time for more tea, in a desperate attempt to stave off feeling unwell.

The exhaustion and wooziness is probably the first signs of the wicked head/chest cold that is going around this season. I missed a week of work when I caught it and spent most of that week sleeping or veging on the couch.

I recommend a loading dose of Vitamin C if you're not terribly sensitive to it, lots of rest, and avoiding dairy. My acupuncturist would advise you to keep warm, with special emphasis on protecting the back of your neck from the elements.

noooooooooo she can NOT be getting sick. Not this week. no no no no nono no.

*throws temper tantrum*

From: [identity profile] stroppy-baggage.livejournal.com

Why "not this week"? Her birthday's a week and a half away and it's better that she avoid that date.

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

that week either.

or the next 8 weeks after that.

or ever again really.

But, we have girl game this week. so absolutely no getting sick with girl game happening, nor with birthdays happening, nor holidays. There shall be no illness that would prevent Jilli/Staxxy time. *harumph*

I wore a headdress like that for an EGL shoot years ago and I got everything from "kawaii ne!" to "omfg I don't ever want to see you wearing those little hats again as long as I live"

LOL

I think it all depends on the person..

I like how this one looks ;) then again, I didn't make it with crazy lace on it!

Black military-style waistcoat: two rows of silver buttons, no lapels, and a square-ish neckline.

Oooo, that sounds delightful. Can't wait to see pics.

Pretty much the same thing as a cravat, but I think a jabot tends to be frillier. This is a picture of the one I'm wearing: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=5904764

I am now positively drooling. I ought to make something like that for myself.

Is it Thursday when the Roberto Cavalli goodies hit H&M? Because I NEED that jacket you posted earlier.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Yes, Thursday. I need to check the H&M site to see which store in SF will have the line, and then sweet-talk my friend who volunteered to go and snag me a jacket.

it won't be at all the stores? WOE! I must try to find my way through the confusing site, then. There are two within easy striking distance of my house, but if they don't have it, and it's only in SF...

...do they do online orders?

WOE! The closest stores that will have them are in New York City! I wonder if I can bribe a friend who lives there!

Man, I think potential cold-ick is going around. [passes you vitamin C and garlic and tea]

I look forward to seeing the pictures! Also, where do you get your granny boots? I've been trying to find some.

I babbled at length about the Very Good Boots I have here: http://cupcake-goth.livejournal.com/286895.html#cutid1

Oh, you are a peach. Also, a pusher. That ebay page also has CANES. I am so screwed.

2 part response:

1-I must know where [livejournal.com profile] minim_calibre found that waistcoat, would it be as simple as asking her (assuming it's a her)

2-I have a black on black headdress that will not look nearly as ricoculous as you might think it does, and you are more than welcome to try it, in the privacy of wherever you see fit :)

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

1. The waistcoat came from the magic land of eBay. I had shown it to her while I was coveting it, and she hit the shiny Buy It Now button as an early birthday prezzie for me. The waistcoat is by Daisy Fuentes (!!! I know, it boggles the mind), and I'm pretty sure the seller had others like it in tiny [livejournal.com profile] mineke sizes.

2. Hmmm. If I could borrow your black-on-black headdress to try on, that would be lovely. :)

From: [identity profile] mineke.livejournal.com

1. Oh, eBay, how I adore thee!

2. I'll be sure to bring it with next time I know we'll be in the same place at the same time :D
