I need some dresses made, and it doesn't look like my usual seamstress/personal designer will have time.

::sobs quietly at that::

I have been told the style of dress I want is pretty damn simple, and that if I had the time, I'd be able to make them myself. Which is probably true, but making dresses with princess seams always goes horribly awry when I try it myself, and my goodness, do I not have the time right now.*

So! I'm hoping that one of you talented munchkins will be able to help me. If you go to this LJ gallery of mine, there are two pictures of my One True Dress there. I'd love to get three or four of them made, in various (black) fabrics. If any of you think you might be able to make them, leave a comment and we'll start talking about prices, fabrics, measurements, and all those details.

Of course, if any of you reading this knows where I can buy off-the-rack versions of my One True Dress, OMG tell me now now now!

*Maybe, after my work deadlines have settled down, I may try my hand at making a dress by myself. But Not Right Now.

Can you wait until May?

If so, I can probably handle on or two of em after Convergence.

Ooooh, bless your black heart. I knew you were super-busy with Convergence, which I why I haven't sent you a pleading e-mail. :)

That looks totally do-able for Amanda, too...

I'm glad other, better seamstresses jumped in before I was tempted to. My limited bandwidth is already committed to the next Moby Costume, and I've never made anything with princess seams before. (They're hardly the best for my shape, ne?) I can see why that's a Perfect Dress, though, and I can't wait to see it.

I'm not going to be free to sew for at least two weeks, but I'm certainly interested- I've made dresses like that before.

Really? I might take you up on that. I'll pester you in a few weeks. :)

And I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking it's about time I tried my hand at sewing for other people. If you're willing to go through the mock-up and stick-pin stages with me, I'll give it a try, but not till after NWC.

I am more than willing to go through the mock-up and stick-pin stages. :)

And you do know about Dress by Design (http://www.dressbydesign.com/), right?

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Oh, I do, I do. But I'm hoping that I might be able to get the dresses made for less than that, and the only design that Dress by Design has that comes close to what I want doesn't look like it would be full enough for me. I suppose I should send them an e-mail asking about that ...

Hello,
I just went to this site and it seems like a dream come true, but there doesn't seem to be pricing info anywhere. I know it probably depends on the style and fabric and such, but a ballpark range would be nice to have.

Can you help?

Is it okay to hijack your post? :)

I'm looking for a good seamstress too. If she does good work, there will be multiple *bajillion assignments for her. :)

You should ask Ginor. I know she's going to be in a sewing tizzy until SMF but this sounds right up her alley.

I live too far away I think for offering my services to be practical, but I'm out here if you need me.

One day, when I next get to the States, I'd happily show you how you do princess seams. They are something I'd really good at doing, and funnily, now every time i make them I think of you...

...hmmm...when this wedding and show nonsense are over, I'll try to write you a tutorial on how to do them...

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

A tutorial would be *lovely*!

Oh, and since you're a fellow thrifting-fiend: if you see a dress like my One True Dress at any of the charity or thrift shops you scavenge through, I wear a US size 14. :)

I have a Little Black Book of Wants...full of lists of things people are hunting for...it's already in there...it's only a matter of time; I am the thrifting diva...

You might check in with Marie. . .

I know you know Marie. She of The Fitting Room (http://members.aol.com/fittingrm/). She who is the model of the Countess in Girl Genius. She who consorts with evil Uncle Payne (http://members.aol.com/payne/mygalery.htm).

She does mostly do corsets, but you're a friend - she does all kinds of other fabulous stuff, too, like the outfit I'm wearing in my icon. Plus, she used to make all my business suits, and she made me a very similar dress once - in my case, it was a stretch burgundy pin-wale, with a scoop neck, but with the same princess seams, and very full skirt. We put in a back zipper, which I usually don't bother with, the fabric is stretchy enough. . . It's super comfortable and flattering.
