cupcake_goth: A lady always carries a handkerchief. (dainty cliche)

I must admit, getting a steady trickle of subscription notices over here is nice. Hello to everyone trying to find where to go now that Tumblr is melting. BRING BACK LONG-FORM BLOGGING 2K19.

(I know, I know, it probably won't happen, but it's a nice dream.)

I made a previous post about what sort of things I burble about over here:

Over here, I tend to post slightly longer-form burbling, occasional rants about The Goth Discourse, things about goings-on in my day-to-day life, and of course, fandom wittering. (For the probably 2 of you who don't know, my primary fandoms are The Vampire Chronicles (even tho' it has gone spectacularly and hilariously off the rails with the more recent books) and NBC's Hannibal.

There's also Shallow Fashion Coveting and DIY Project Pondering, occasional outbreaks of Dammit, Why Isn't This A Thing I Can Find, whining about health, Ooooh, More Vintage Gothic Romances!, and of course, Ooooh, vampires!

In Other News, I just glanced at Tumblr, and it looks like mine is still there? And that two of the Hannibal ones I follow are still there? IDK, like I said, the algorithms they're using are utter crap.

In Other Other News: do I want to back a fanartist's patreon even tho' I don't care all that much about NSFW art, I just think they're talented and like how they draw my OTP? (Also, they occasionally draw my OTP as vampires, which is not much of a stretch.) (I am obviously not talking about my OG Murder Husbands OTP here, because they are vampires.) On the one hand, I strongly believe in supporting artists! On the other hand, eh, visual porn? Not really my thing, I'd rather read fic if I want smut.

I am a semi-nocturnal creature. This is not an I'm soooooo goth! thing, I have Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder, which means my body clock is set to later than other people's. In a perfect world, I'd go to be around 2am, read for 30-40 minutes, conk out, and wake up sometime after 11:30am. I'm most productive and clear-headed in the late afternoon through the night. (Productive as long as I don't fall into reading fanfic or gothic romances that is.)

So, being semi-nocturnal, I am really REALLY annoyed that I need to use a light box in the winter. It seems unfair.

I have not really felt any winter holiday spirit since 2011, the worst year of my life. (In the space of 6 months, my Mom, paternal grandmother, and one of our kitties all died. Oh, and I was unemployed for most of it.) We don't really decorate anymore (the current configuration of the house isn't conducive to it), and just ... meh.

But the tradition that's held fast is one from my childhood: Dad and I go holiday shopping. It doesn't matter how busy we may be, it doesn't matter if we're on extremely tight budgets. We take an evening, go out for a snack, and roam around.

Today's that day! Which is exactly what I need. Yes, even the annual questions of "Are you a Christmas caroler" from clueless people who don't understand that full skirts, high-collared blouses, and frock coats don't equal caroler. This year I'm wearing all black and no top hat, and I know I'll still get that question.
