Remember when I said that I was taking my Perfect Granny Boots (that I've had for 13 or so years) to my shoe repair guy, in the hopes that he could give them new life? He did indeed resucitate them, and I was delighted ...

Until I discovered that the toes aren't totally water-tight. If I wear these boots out in the rain (or go walking on very wet ground), my toes get damp. Grrrr and hmph.

I am eyeing these boots (yes, clicky link to amazon.com). Of course, Amazon doesn't have my size in stock, but Renton Western Wear does. Now I just need to get the $100 + tax together, which leads to ...

A wardrobe sale! I was planning on culling the velvet-y side of the closet anyway, now I just know what I'll be putting the money toward. So over the next day or two, I will be pulling things off hangers, asking [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage's opinion on whether or not I should sell certain items, and then writing up descriptions.

(Of course, if any of you happen to have a pair of black, lace-up, vaguely-Victorian-looking boots in a size 8.5 that have a block or Western style of heel that is no higher than 2" that you've been trying to find a good home for, just let me know!)

Oh, my god, you must please please please let me know when you are Selling Stuff Off. Some of your stuff will be alter-able down to me-sized. Yes, I did say that. because yes, I did that with that HOV skirt, remember?

*hugs&love*

-d, who will make a trip to the post office on the morrow.

and, oh, yes....

If I have any money leftover after this weekend...
I guess I'll be making yet another order with amazon.com....

damn you and your enabling. new......booootss......and they do have them in MY size.....

size 8, can squeeze into 7.5, and can wear 8.5 with thick socks, which is why I tell you to tell me when you're selling off shoes! ;)

-d, also a shoe whore.

Re: and, oh, yes....

Aren't they gorgeous? I just wish Amazon had them in *my* size.

Get thee to REI and buy a bottle of Nikwax. About 8$.

If they are just not *totally* waterproof, Nikwax may very well make them so. If not, they will prolly make them better than they are now.

Whaaa? This is some sort of arcane goop for you hiking & nature sorts, isn't it? But if you think it'll work on boots where the toes had been worn completely through and then fixed, then I'll give it a try.

From: [identity profile] recalcitrant-lj.livejournal.com

Yup, it's a hiking thing, though I put it on my gloves as well.

It smells vaguely like Elmer's Glue, and kinda looks like really runny glue before it drys, though it's undetectable when it's dry.

Start with clean boots, apply. Let dry. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Then frollic through the dewy meadows to your hearts content!

I always use Sno-Seal, because it's beeswax-based.

You're reminding me that I need to Sno-Seal my new shoes, actually....

Dagnabbit, didn't anyone ever teach you not to sell stuff right after the holidays? I have no disposable income now.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I know, I know. But I need new boots for Jan., Feb., and March, when it will almost *certainly* be veryvery rainy.

From: [identity profile] trystbat.livejournal.com

Mmmmmmmm, Jilli-stuff sale!!! And seeing as we have similarly sized feet, if you feel the need to be rid of any shoes, let me know! The non-water-tight ones would be fine for me in usually not-wet California ;-)

Hee, I may be the only one reading who *hasn't* blown all disposable income at post-holiday sales yet!

From: [identity profile] icprncs.livejournal.com

No, I blew all of mine *on* the holidays. The boots I gave my husband cost way more than any pair of shoes I've every bought for *myself*. ;)

CURSES!!

alrighty then... I have been meaning to ask you if you have anything against boots that go further up your leg (closer to the knee).

and the curses... well... we will have to come back to that shortly.

Also, will you be home tomorrow?

Re: CURSES!!

I'm looking for lace-up boots like these that come to about mid-calf. Do you have a source?

Also, my e-mail's being bouncy this morning, but Jilli & i think you should come to her house for latkes this evening.

Re: CURSES!!

excellent!! I will be there. and no, I don't have an actual source... alas.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Re: CURSES!!

Stax, you probably shouldn't come over. Both of us are mildly unwell, and I don't want you to get sick. :(

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Re: CURSES!!

I'll put this here, too, since you say your email is being bouncy: both Pete & I have come down with a mild case of The Ick, so I will leave it to your best judgment as to if you feel you should come over. We'd love to see you, but don't want you to come down with this.

Re: CURSES!!

I did get your e-mail, but the reply i tried to send bounced.

I believe in exposing myself to germs to build up my immunity before the apocalypse, but if you'd rather rest tonight and reschedule the consumpton of fried things for next week, that would work for me, too. I haven't been feeling especially decisive this week, so either way is fine by me.

Re: CURSES!!

The previous reply has been judged to be too wishey-washey. I offer you the following real answer instead:

Let's reschedule for a time when you're household is in a better state to handle smelling like fried potatoes for a while. Next Thursday would be good for me if it's good for you.

Re: CURSES!!

(Hopefully this catches you before you leave!)

If you're up for it, latkes tonight would be most welcome. So feel free to come on over!

Oh, you wicked woman. My budget's shot -- coffin case, +4 boots of stompiness -- until February.

I was just explaining last night that while many people have a boot fetish, I feel very strange explaining how my fetish is for boots that keep my feet dry. No other boots are so sexy to me.

From: [identity profile] martygreene.livejournal.com

Hrm... why do I get the feeling that this is going to be done super soon, and I'll STILL miss out on this despite my impending visit in 7 days.

EEP! 7 days!

From: [identity profile] kijjohnson.livejournal.com

Actually, I do. Almost exactly. You might want these, too, since mine are thrift-store acquisitions, but you can borrow mine until you get organized.

Swingie coat?
