Tumblr user spitegoblin asked: I’m curious– What style of clothing would y'all wear if public ridicule, financial limitations, and general inconvenience weren’t a thing?

My answer: Exquisitely tailored frock coats in silk and velvet and lightweight wool, gossamer silk ruffled blouses, and huge, full skirts with layers of lace, ruffles, and beadwork, or that are layers of scraps and tatters of jaw-droppingly beautiful fabrics.

So, pretty much how I dress now, but with perfect tailoring and insanely luxurious fabrics. I would keep [livejournal.com profile] kambriel in queenly luxury while she made beautiful things for me.

What about you folks? Tell me your fashion dreams!

Well public ridicule is not an issue for me, mostly it's inconvenience and expense! I do prefer to be comfortable but in a wonderfully dark and eccentric way so i'm thinking a variety of dresses and jackets from here in non-coordinating blacks and reds: http://iveyabitz.com/ If i had the money i'd also track down all of the Lipservice XL leggings that i happen to like (Millenium Moon!!) and pair those with more Fluevog boots than i already own.

and since we are dreaming i'd also like to be living in an English-style cottage but fixed up with all of the modern conveniences somewhere where it is perpetually fall and i can wear my many black scarves and shawls (i would acquire yet more scarves and shawls, possibly from Kambriel).

... so basically like i already dress only MORE SO. and no more office-drag.

princess seamed dresses with full skirts, or skirt & blouse combos in the same shapes. Lots of ruffles at the collars, wrists, and in the skirts. Corsets in beautiful fabrics. Fantastic stockings. A vast array of fluevogs, Louis xivth heels, and other shoes with bows. Lots of velvet for winter, chiffon sand laces for summer, and taffeta a, silks, and stains for spring and autumn. My wardrobe is limited by expense, alas.

And every skirt and dress would have usable pockets. That way I could dispense with coats and wear cloaks instead.

Public opinion has never mattered, but I will note that the only opinions I have gotten from the public, in the last twenty or so years, have been admiration of my clothing (good lord my sun cloak is popular *everywhere*, with locals and tourists alike, even attracting small crowds now and then). Granted, the PNW is a rather goth-friendly region (goth-heavy too, from what I gather), and the Seattle region, in particular, is very artist heavy, providing a culture where eccentricities are more encouraged and appreciated than ridiculed.

The only think keeping mine away is cost.

I love the whole dark mori look with a side of nu goth and would just go all the way with it.

Kira and I just discovered that we can just baaarely fit into Killstar's XXL, and have been quietly having fits of glee while buying all their skater dresses ^___^

My boot collection would explode, natch. Way more '50s and '60s femme fatale, now that I can pull that off. The blue morpho dress from Luly Yang. Alexander McQueen. And yes, some very, very nice leather corsets.

The wardrobes of the Dowager Duchess, Phryne Fisher, Nora Charles, and Peggy Carter, mixed with high-end Vuvalini (thanks for that term, Jen) and a lot of neo-postpunk and New Romantic. So, a lot like I do already, just better.

It depends on the day; I change my mind about how I want to look about every 20 seconds. Some days total late Victorian, some days tattered graveyard goth, some days a dandy if velvet pants and ruffled blouse, some days vintage, some days a hippie in expensive thin leather boots- I forget what company makes those, they look like moccasins but up to the knee- but of course a *dark* hippie, some days Stevie Nicks...

Minnetonka Moccasin, maybe? Or possibly Son of Sandlar?

(Trying to picture what you're going for, sorry if I'm off the mark!)

OMG, I NEED THESE IN MY CALF SIZE AND I NEED THEM LIKE BURNING

My future fantasy wardrobe includes a Helpful Assistant to assist with lacing, right?? ;)

If we're magical-thinking, I'd definitely edit my health levels in order to allow me to wear heels again, and corsets on a regular basis.

I think I'd have the closet equivalent of a mood ring -- some days, I'd want to go for rhinestones and burlesque influences, other times, I'd be going for a lot of flowy, sweeping stuff with defined waistlines (and it would be nice to spend time in a climate where I could wear fitted coats again!) I'd also take the fabric upgrade that several of you mentioned -- more silk and velvet, more good-quality satin and tone-on-tone sequins and embroidery.

I'm really fond of the New Romantic/dandy look (which requires a bit of custom-fitting for me, which is why you don't see me dressed like the Phouka from "War for the Oaks" more often), although I have rocked it in the past. I also have a fondness for the "tight leather trousers/boots/short jacket" metal-dude style, as exemplified by Steve Stevens and Nikki Sixx. Fuck anyone who thinks that you have to be a rail-thin masculine type to carry it off.

I do really like the nu-goth witchy aesthetic (and I am thrilled to bits to have some clothes that are mostly cotton/spandex and leggings with dresses, because that's always a look I've liked) . . . and being able to get it all in delightfully sp00ky prints pleases me enormously.

I'd also plan to shower riches upon [livejournal.com profile] kambriel and [livejournal.com profile] angldst -- the best part of my fantasy wardrobe is that it would all be properly fitted and tailored, as well as suitably fabulous!

I would have SO MANY SHINY THINGS TO PUT ON MY HEAD. I'd raid the wardrobe department from Miss Fisher's Mysteries for all of Phryne's amazing headpieces, to start with. And there would be Most Excellent Boots in soft leather, velvet, and suede.

I'd need to raid a couple of fashion museum collections, but I'd KILL for a couple of my favorite Thierry Mugler dresses -- always important to have something out-of-this-world for an unexpected formal masquerade!

In other words, my closet would be the very best quality hot mess, and I'd love every minute of it ;)

Along with [livejournal.com profile] ashbet, I'd employ magick, and make all of us physically well and able to wear what we want and MAKE what we want for ourselves and others. To wit: I'd wear a lot of Natural Form era style Victorian, mostly black, occasionally tattered piratey New Romantic, but mostly black. Hair will be its usual ginger self, but usually covered up by a variety of brightly coloured wool dread sets, courtesy of Psysheep (see above about perfect world & magick & such). ;) And oh, yes, of course, for every one of us, that perfect shade of lipstick for each of us, whatever it may be, would never be discontinued!

Completely bespoke wardrobe from the undergarments to shoes. A few vintage pieces and the celestial pieces from Alexander McQueen and Valentino collections from 2015 and 2016. I want to wear my glittering floor sweeping cape as seen here:

to go grocery shopping.

I would alternately look like Peggy Carter, and the rockin-est Rockabilly girl the world had yet seen. All pencil skirts, A-lines, clean lines... A very 1930s/40s esthetic, with just a dash of 50s thrown in for flair.

I had to think about this for a minute because sadly I have not been into dressing up at all for a long time. But I know what I would do. FULL ON STEVIE NICKS. Chiffon and burnout velvet and beads and feathers and boots up to here and fringe down to there, and topped off with an overly embellished top hat or Kentucky Derby style thing. Flamenco shawls with embroidery and skirts with pointed hemlines. Crochet and patchwork in black and silver and jewel colors. Sigh!

I have always wondered what the big deal is about tailored Armani suits. Always wanted to try one; will never see that much money in one lump in my lifetime.

Manolo Blahnik heels so I could look just like a drawing in the New Yorker, a perfect platinum angled bob (and the time and cash to get it re-dyed and -angled once a week) and a personal trainer to have my 1992 figure.
