I love the idea of gardens. I like plants! But I don't like the actual physical reality and work of gardening: outside, in the sun, and absolutely finding spiders? No, thank you.

Houseplants are out of the question, because we have cats that will eat everything, or knock the plants over, and otherwise cause destruction.

There are a couple of local companies that make charming little terrariums and container gardens with carnivorous plants, and I'm thinking of getting one for my desk. But I am notorious for killing indoor plants, and I should probably see if I can keep something alive before I trundle to The Belfry and buy something. And as luck would have it, the darlings over at Gloomth posted a tutorial on making your own tiny moss terrariums! And hey, it's not like I don't have interesting glass containers from thrift stores and a back yard full of moss ...

So, going to the office with me on Tuesday:

Moss terrarium

Second moss terrarium

Why yes, all of the decorations are things I had rattling around in my crafting supplies. Don't you have tiny skeleton figures? In fact, the only thing I had to buy was a bag of potting soil; my next door neighbors (the Gardening Kings of the block) had spare smooth rocks and pebbles they were happy to give me.

("You're gardening?!"

"I'm making moss terrariums for my desk."

"... Oh. Well, it's a start!")
