Dad underwent a non-surgical heart procedure today. EVERYTHING TURNED OUT FINE, and he's already feeling better.

He'd been dealing with exhaustion and trouble getting enough air for a month or so (way to tell me, Dad!), and after some doctor appointments and tests, it turns out that he had atrial fibrillation. The fix for that is kind of like bringing Frankenstein's monster to life: giving his heart an electrical charge to jump-start it back to the correct rhythm. No surgery, just twilight sedation and big ol' electrodes strapped to his chest.

Everything went smoothly, and when I saw him afterward, he already looked better than he has for a few months. He is spending the night with his ladylove, Patti (who is wonderful and I adore), and he's going to be taking it easy for a week or so.

(Guess who thought he was going right back to work at Fred Meyer on Friday? Ahahahahaha NO DAD. YOU WILL REST. DON'T MAKE ME PULL A GUILT TRIP ON YOU, BECAUSE I FUCKING WILL.)

Huge love and thank-yous to [livejournal.com profile] maiaarts, who took me to the hospital, kept Patti and I company, and then took me for therapeutic thrift shopping.

And now, I start prepping for Rufflecon!

So glad it turned out well. Also, it amuses me that I read your tags as though they were part of the post.

*big big big hugs*

So glad that he went in to the doctor to get this diagnosed, and that he's doing well now!

Oh my goodness. This sounds scary although I know atrial fibrillation is not unusual. Whew. I'm glad he is OK & feeling better! And glad he got around to telling you! Geez.. I know that one. My mother also has atrial fibrillation. She finally got around to telling me only a month or so ago, and I'm not sure whether she's seen a doctor yet. This reminds me to remind her about that.. again.

So happy he is doing well. Now, if he will just behave and recuperate. Hope the weekend will find some relaxation for you.
