For about six years or so, I've exclusively worn Angel by Thierry Mugler. It smells yummy, and it's the only thing by my absolute favorite designer that I can afford. But over the past few months, I've been getting ... bored with it. Well, bored isn't quite the right word. I still like it, but I started craving a more complex scent.
Then I discovered The Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. I spent an hour or two reading the descriptions of the various scents they offer, then placed an order. Then waited. And waited. And waited some more. (They're extremely busy AND short-staffed, poor creatures.)
A gorgeous-smelling package turned up in the mailbox a few weeks ago, and I've been playing with all the samples I bought, plus the *enormous* amount of freebie samples the wonderful folks at the Lab threw in for me. I think I've discovered my favorite combination of scents: Bewitched, Black Rose, and Bliss.
BEWITCHED
Deep, luscious green and berry scents that evoke images of woodland witchcraft and the raw power of nature: blackberry, sage, green tea, wild berries and dark musk.
BLACK ROSE
Exquisitely melancholy. The background scent to an ancient exequies. Heavy, dark and floral: a blend of roses, with a touch of amber and musk.
BLISS
A shot of pure, self-indulgent euphoria! A scent that is very, very wicked in its own way: the serotonin-slathered scent of pure milk chocolate.
Of course, this discovery is not stopping me from thinking longingly of commissioning a custom scent from them. Yes, they do that. From the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab FAQ: I want a personalized oil made. Can you do that? Yes, with pleasure. We offer an extensive consultation process that will determine an alchemically and aromatherapeutically correct aesthetic oil blend customized to an individual. The oil will be yours, and yours alone, and will NEVER, under any circumstances, be reproduced or sold to another person. You name the scent yourself, and will have access to it in both perfume oil and incense form. We will keep the scent on file for you, and will construct it for you on demand. The cost of the consultation process is a flat $150.00 and comes with a 5ml bottle of the scent. Forever after, 5ml bottles of the scent will be available to you at a discounted $9.50 each. Oh yes, I want that.
