If you don't, it was this post, back at the end of February.

Anyhoodle, I had decided to sell that ivory & black striped Ralph Lauren blazer, because I just couldn't get it to sit properly on me. Which made me a little sad, because it's a great blazer. Except it didn't sell at the Time Travelers' Rummage Sale, so it came home and sat there, waiting for me to get around to taking some photos and putting it online.

(You can see where this is going, can't you?)

A few nights ago, during the traditional round of stare at the ceiling, waiting to fall asleep, I realized that I hadn't tried one of my usual jacket alterations, and I certainly had nothing to lose if I did try it and it didn't work. So last night, while watching a movie, I split the side seams from the hem to just below the waist, sewed some (amazingly tacky, WTF J. Peterman?) metal/rhinestone buttons into the interior of the hem for weights, and then finished all four of the new seams. Today I wore the jacket out. Oh hey, guess what? It no longer pulls/creases/crumples weirdly at my hips! It fits the way I wanted it to! I wasn't continually tugging at the hem!

So yay, I have (temporarily, I'm sure) soothed my never-ending craving for MOAR STRIPEY BLAZERS, with something I already owned. I'm kind of ridiculously smug about this.

I've read that one of the features that make the Chanel jacket the creme de la creme is that weights are sewn into the hem to make it fall just so. I tried one on once, and it IS heavy. Plus just too boxy to be flattering. WTF is the fuss all about? Anyhoo, weights were a brilliant idea.

I believe we need to see photographic evidence. ;)

need photo!
And - genius! Its a DUH moment lol!
Go to all the jackets and do that to them : )
I just got rid of my winter clothes and brought out
my summer ones - I even ruthlessly culled stuff to donate.
I feel amazingly smug and tired.

You clever thing, I'm now inspired to re-examine some of the jackets languishing in my closet.
Looking forward to the photos.

:D

Now if only I could adjust tops to fit me!

Current method: leave plenty of room at the top for my bust/bra, chop the sides into strips, fit according to body-size. Triple-knot.

The often leads to having to slither out of my tops. It is quite ladylike, and certainly does no involve expletives.

Heh. I've been going through the dyeing and mending/modifying bins because I really ought to do something with all this free time, and it's almost like going shopping. I have an embarassing amount of very cool clothing that I'd more or less forgotten I owned because it's been stuffed in bins for ages. Now if I'll only do the necessary work on it, I'll have a bunch of awesome basically-new clothes!

Excellent work on the blazer, particularly the weights. I'll need to try that on a couple of things. You are entitled to feel smug, I think. And yes, photos.
