I rarely do karaoke. (Partially because I had almost 15 years of choral experience in my past, and I frequently despair over how much my voice has degenerated. Go ahead, roll your eyes at me, I do it too.)

Anyway, karaoke, play Rock Band (which I should do more often, because it's silly fun): THE song I sing is "White Rabbit". It was the song I used to use as an audition piece in college when I was trying out for various bands.

In other news: here, watch this video. [livejournal.com profile] skarrin pointed me at it, and it is brilliant. Cookie Monster singing Tom Waits' "God's Away On Business".

My Rock Band songs differ from my karaoke songs. My absolute Rock Band song is Carry On Wayward Son. It helps that in large-group Rock Band with audience, I can spin around and do it with my back to the screen (and still do it at 100%) and give a good rockstar performance. Second best is Don't Fear The Reaper. Moonage Daydream gets an honorable mention if the person playing guitar is cool with me doing the famous Bowie/Mick Ronson stage business YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

I also have two Rock Band songs that are guitar favorites. Girl's Not Grey (Look at me, I'm Jade Puget!) and Bad Reputation, on which I can actually manage the Stratocaster Swagger as well as hitting the notes.

I call White Rabbit my throwaway karaoke song. I can toss that song out there and people are always so surprised at my ability with it, when really it doesn't even fall to the top or bottom of my range and it's quick enough that it goes by without me missing too much of whatever else might be going on.

Voice lessons and lots of choral work for the win!

Hmmm. I'll bet you'd like to sing Mozart's Requiem with the Northwest Chorale for 9/11, wouldn't you? I think you'd be up to speed in no time and you'd probably really enjoy it. And only three rehearsals, I think. Eh?

Booze, a pivotal component for any kareoke, will cover that vocal change.
