I observed it by standing in my back yard at dusk, quietly talking to the ancient apple tree that has a holly tree growing at the base and ivy twining around the trunk. Then I ran around the yard with a sparkler (mmmm, sparkler!), and left a candle in a jar burning in the yard.

Hey, we all create our own rituals as needed.

May the rest of this year be kinder to all of us than the first half.

I redressed my altar, used a dresser scarf with butterflies embroidered by my mom, edged with lace tatted by my grandmother, and topped that with a runner made from fabric from my children's nursery curtains. I lit all the candles, burned incense, moved the windchime so it rang softly, and just sat for a while and watched the flames flicker.

Thank you for reminding me it's solstice! I don't tend to track the sabbats, being a Coyote girl, but it's nice to share a beer with him and give thanks for his blessings.

Heh. I don't really track the sabbats either, being very much a hedge witch and not a Wiccan of any flavor, but I do know when the Solstices are.

(Plus, my pseudo-sibling is Very Wiccan, Indeed, and I can always rely on him to give me a heads-up if I need.)

I fall into the kitchen witch category: take what you have, chuck it in the pot, add a dash of salt, and pray! Works for cooking AND craft.

That, and I bake cookies for Coyote sometimes. Mmm, gingery offering.

I celebrated by bitching about the cold. Uninsulated brick flats designed to be cool enough to suffer through summer in the 70s when people could afford electricity don't do so well around freezing.

I celebrated by going to Fremont and wearing my sun shirt all last weekend. And, it worked! We got sun yesterday!
