While wandering through a Spirit Halloween Superstore today, we discovered the following child/tween costume:

In case the photo doesn't make it clear, the color scheme of the "Charm School Witch" costume is pink and black.

and the top hemlines of the shredded skirt barely cover her still forming labia *shudder* there should be some indecency laws

Side note: If the young lady in question were to be attending Charm school (Gothic or otherwise) would said school really approve of such a short skirt on a pre-teen? (Adult costumes are a different story)

As far as the costume itself goes, it looks like an unfortunate cross between something from your delightful book and someone who just fell out of Hogwarts.

Oh, the skirt is FAR too short. I'd make the young lady wear a second, longer skirt underneath it.

It's not actually that short in person, or at least, it wasn't on the young girl I know who wore it a few years back. But then, I have no idea if she bought up a size for that...

And the costume was quite adorable, I thought. (Her rather dour younger sister went as a vampire. Their costumes were so very in tune with their personalities I had to laugh.)

See I was thinking Stripey tights would be the best to go underneath that skirt.

Oh dear. I always that something closer to The Worst Witch was a better source.

Well, now I know what it would look like if your book and the Harry Potter series had a child.

I have this paranoid feeling that this is to "prove" that Halloween/Wicca/Goth/Suburban Streets are full of evil pedobear fans.

You have become a cultural icon. Enjoy it!

Hm. I guess it's never too early for a girl to start dressing like a skank.

I'm almost glad my mom couldn't afford costumes for me and my brother when I was that age. At least my poor judgement wouldn't have been indulged, and I wouldn't have walked around looking like that.

That costume makes tacky a color all its own.

I am jealous o_0

If the skirt were a proper length, it'd be adorable, and a very amusing coincidence of color scheme.

As it stands, though... To paraphrase [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda, "Ms. Granger! 50 points from Griffindor! And go put some clothes on this instant!"

Ah, I see we have a uniform for House Sparklypoo! And with a slightly longer skirt (without the ragged edging), or perhaps swapping the kneesocks for striped tights, that would work as an outfit.
