Yes, this is all a reminder that whatever you put on the internet could come back in ways you didn't expect. But that "feature" of the cross post including the title or first sentence of a (possibly) locked post? Aside from the potential for drama-farming, there's the very real issues of people who want to keep their LJ identity FAR AWAY from whatever public FB they may have.

The thing that has me raising my eyebrows however, is the incompatibilities between how LJ treats your content and how FB treats it. Essentially, LJ says "Hey, your content is your content", whereas FB says "Hey, your content is your content, until someone else posts it or links to it anywhere on FB. Then it's our content!"

(That's a very, VERY simple explanation of it all, but it does cover the important points.)

So. Double-check your settings (http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/?cat=extensions), and be very aware of what tickyboxes are available or highlighted when you're commenting.

Oh, DOES that say linked to? I suppose that might indeed come under "shared with" now wouldn't it?

If so, that's absolutely hilarious.

Oh my lord, you're entirely correct, as by "Facebook" they mean their "Platform" and by "Platform" they mean "their APIs" and of course, reposting a comment would be using their API now wouldn't it.

Personally, I've got no problem with the new feature, as my own recent posts pretty much covered.

Besides that though, the default for the tickyboxes when you're commenting on any locked post of any kind is that they're turned off. One would hope that at least the majority of folks that people call "friends" wouldn't be douchebag enough to turn them on or otherwise link to stuff without asking first, as is the usual etiquette.

What I have been told is that the tickyboxes are extremely easy to turn on accidentally through alt-tab and so on. And if someone is posting a comment quickly (like people do, especially when they're posting a fast message of support or sympathy), they may use their usual keyboard shortcuts and not notice if a tickybox has been ticked.

I'm not terribly worried on my own behalf, but I can certainly understand people being worried.

I have seen some horrible breaches of trust happen, especially if LJ communities are involved. I know *I* certainly wouldn't trust everyone who is a member of every LJ comm I'm part of.

Well, this kind of supports me in my position of refusing to get an account on facebook or twitter. Baaaaaaaaaaaaad. Some kind of net-mafia just like google. Bah. So, I cannot even click the tickyboxes by accident, they're inactive. :) You and your dirrrty little secrets are save from here. ;)

Now I really got to find out how to fix my roller blind or I will be unintentionally gothy and loom in darkness for the whole day... o_O

I am with the person above me, I have no FB or Twitter... but that doesn't mean I like this new feature because I have NO desire to have any of my content shared by any kind of accident. I might do one of those super-bloody The Purnings of my f-list in order to make sure it's all people I still know and trust!
