Do you people have any idea how difficult it is to find an old-style can of Aqua Net? Good grief! I have one that [livejournal.com profile] cass404 gave me, and I am going to hoard that thing, because the new formula of Aqua Net is Not The Same as the old. No, not at all.

(Seriously. There are whole discussions online about how the formula is different, even though the company swears it isn't. Having recently used a new can of the pink & white label, I agree with the people who say it has changed, and for the worse.)

Which leads me to this, oh LJ hivemind! If any of you people find a can of the classic style Aqua Net (in the pink & white or the purple can), TELL ME. I, um, very well may ask you to snag it for me.

Long ago, when I was young goth-rocker girl and living at home, one of my Christmas presents from my parents was A CASE of Aqua Net. Yes, I went through enough hairspray in the upkeep of my Big Hair that giving me a case of Aqua Net made perfect sense. I was delighted. The case was gone by May or June of that year. The hole in the ozone layer? Partially my fault.

Ah! So YOU'RE to blame for this ungodly heat/humidity and that huge glowing disc in the sky!

I don't have Aqua-Net, but I DO have a suggestion. If you know any older pack-rats, THEY might have some. They hoard damned near anything, so that would be your best bet.

!!!

Oh, if you do have a can of the classic-style Aqua Net, I would be in your debt. (And yes, it is a good sealant.)

I got a case once too, as a bday gift! A friend worked at a grocery store & got it for me. Sometime around 17-18.

Good times.

Hey, I put in my share as well.

As did the majority of my musical influences growing up...y'know..the Hair Bands.

actually... I have an IDEA...

you know those tiny little Mom & Pop corner stores? The kind that do not have the really high merchandise turn over? The kind that stock things like Aquanet but don't sell a WHOLE LOT Of *anything* much? You know, I bet those tiny little stores just might carry the occasional can of the original formula.

Not a bad idea! Also, check out eBay....

That is a link for a classic can style security safe, since its for a shadowbox you could always go with a fake :)

Also, for our Halloween idea this year I may need to request your knowledge on "big hair"

After not having used it in decades (it hasn't been available in Western Canada for ages) I got a can from the US which looked EXACTLY like the purple can in your photo. In short, it sucks. I have a can of Frizz-Ease that is far more like the old Aqua Net than this stuff is. What a disappointment.

I remember the old style can was very metallic, sort of an all-over almost magenta purple but I think it had a white coloured net design on it(?) instead of black. Anyway, I wish I could find some of the old stuff too!

Ah yes! I remember using that precious, toxic stuff. My father once commented a bottle of that could bring down the energy warplanes.

OH! the rite aid and the CVS in my neighborhood still carries the good ol' aquanet :D. I've used Got2Be glue and expensive cosmotologist hair sprays but I always find myself going back to Aquanet. Cheap and uber strong hold.

They do?! Hmmm, I may need to find a local Rite Aid and check it out. Thank you for letting me know!

yeah they carry both new and old one
their usually at the bottom of all the hair sprays, not alot of people pay attention to them xD

hey, is this the Aqua Net you're looking for? - http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=976760&ic=48_0&search_query=aqua+net&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find

Aha! I just noticed this post. I had no idea they changed the formula of aqua net... that's ridiculous! At least call it "new aqua net" like all new formulations doomed to failure (New Coke?) so we don't have to buy the new shitty one by accident.

I remember that hairspray from when I was a kid. I haven't seen it in ages! They still make it?!?!?

From: [identity profile] planetkiller.livejournal.com

Fun fact: the old formula of Aqua Net is the only thing (short of scrubbing your skin off) that will remove newsprint from your hands. No other brand of hair spray works, including the new brand.
