Hey, sewing types! Refresh my memory: didn't Jo Ann's have a fabric last Halloween that was a stretchy knit that was pre-distressed? I could swear I've seen listings for such a thing on eBay under the name "zombie knit", but of course I can't find any now.

(I've been looking at a LOT of deathrock-y type photos lately, and I kind of want to create a deathrock-ish version of one of my usual outfits. High-collared, frilly blouse, full ruffly skirt, but with overlays of tattered and shredded fabric. Have I lost my sugar-enhanced mind? I dunno. It sounds fun to ME, anyway.)

(Heeeeeey, I think I have about 4 or 5 yards of heavy-weight fishnetty fabric upstairs in the storage room ...)

(Or I could get a lace blouse from a thrift store, distress it/melt holes in it, and wear it over a camisole. But what to do about the skirt?)

(I like parenthetical statements!)

yup, they did. In a few color combinations too. No idea what it was called though.

I have stuffs for you, and Liz's copy of your book if you wouldn't mind autographing it for her. Not sure when we'll be able to get together though, given than I can't drive anywhere.

I would love to autograph Liz's book! And ooh, stuffs!

You poor lady and your foot. We'll figure out something.

Among the stuffs is a box of vintage/antique (I'm really not sure which) black glass buttons which I have for sale that I wanted you to have first dibs on before I put them up on ebay. I'd have you look at the costume jewelry too, but I don't think the colors really go with your wardrobe these days.

Yeah, the foot thing sucks. I had a BAD reaction to the vicodin last night too, which was terrifying.

I don't have a local JoAnn's, but I'd say to totally go for the style you're talking about.

Do you remember the Frock Coat C wore at the fashion show in Portland? (This photo totally doesn't show the effect, but it might jog your memory: http://www.kambriel.com/visions/phoenixdolls.jpg) It had a velvet underlayer with a hand-dyed and distressed overlay. What I love about it is the more "worn" it gets, the better it works for the overall effect! Ah, here's another picture (still doesn't show the top texture, but you can catch a glimpse of the rough-hewn lower hem: http://www.kambriel.com/visions/phoenixdollcurse.jpg

Yes, that sort of effect! I remember that frock coat and thinking it was fantastic.

If I had spare money, I'd just commission something from you. Silly budget!

I'm glad you remember it :)

Here's the first time I remember using that effect on an item of clothing ~ for my version of a Grim Reaper robe: http://kambriel.livejournal.com/9141.html

(Still doesn't show it very well... I really must get a better picture of it.)

Yeah, I think something like this one in green (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat3063&PRODID=xprd717840) & this one in black (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat3063&PRODID=xprd718055). In the clearance section of the Jo-Ann's website.

Not that I'm condoning such a fashion choice, of course ;-)

Ooh, I have a bit left of the original version of that fabric from 2004 or so, in purple/red/silver and black. I was just working with some of the purple for a one of a kind commission today actually!

I *thot* there was a purple & other colors! I keep looking thru the clearance section of the website for other Halloween fabrics & coming across that olive one & thinking, what the heck would this be good for?

You folks have to show me now, heh.

here you go!

This is how I used it back in 2005. It's my Lavande Gown (http://www.kambriel.com/lava.html):

I remember seeing some of that and intending to pick it up on clearance. It was gauze with holes in it, very zombie like.

In all the times I have been to Portland (which is a lot), I have never made it to Fabric Depot. Usually I spend alllllllll of my money at Powell's. Usually on vampire books.
