For whatever reason, I've not slept well for 3 days now. I've ended up getting up to take a second 5HTP an hour or so after going to bed. I'm going to do a little more research to see if there are any reports of 5HTP losing effectiveness after continued use, but I don't think that's what's happening; I think that I'm just a little more stressed than usual (and fighting off The Ick that is going around), which always throws my body-chemistry off and makes my sleep patterns a little wonky.

Last night we finally managed to see Big Fish. Wow. Wow, wow, wow.

The movie (of course) made me a tad weepy. I knew that it would, having been warned about this by some friends. But it made me weepy for all the right reasons, by expressing some ideas that are very important to me. The Cliff's Notes version of those ideas:

  • Magic DOES happen in the "real world", in everyday life. You just need to pay attention to see it.

  • Impossible things can and do happen, and far more often then people may think. Just because it's something *you've* never experienced doesn't mean it's fiction.

  • Sometimes, just sometimes, the story is just as (if not more) important than the facts.

Wonderful movie. If any of you reading this haven't seen it yet, you should.

"Just because it didn't happen doesn't mean it's not true."

I love it. And I love that movie.

Wow, 5HTP for sleep? I hadn't heard of this. It makes me awfully blinggy. More like a stimulant, really. But my serotonin acts weird. I think I'd have so many extreme dreams after 5HTP - wow.

Re:

5-HTP is apparently a standard treatment for insomnia in Europe. It's been working really, REALLY well for me for the past 3 weeks; the only other time I had problems falling asleep was at the start of my period, which ALWAYS causes me to not sleep anyway.

I haven't noticed my dreams being any more extreme or intense while I've been taking the 5-HTP, just that I've been falling asleep quicker. I honestly think that I'm just a bit more stressed this week, which is why the 100mg dose at bedtime isn't quite cutting it. I'll probably take 200mg right off the bat tonight, but not take any Friday or Saturday.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Re:

A past roommate has taken it for years to help her get to sleep fast, which she needs on her demanding schedule. She swears by it.
