I finished my new skeleton handbag last night. The Stroppy One then looked at it and said, "The hand should be positioned farther over. You didn't take the bow into consideration when you were figuring out where to attach the hand".

I know he's got a point, but I can't decide if the effort of unpicking the stitches, moving the hand, and re-stitching it is worth the difference it would make. Here, have a photo, so you can see what I'm talking about:

So I turn to you, oh wonderful LJ peoples! What do you think?

how about making the bow smaller? that way you don't have to move it.

If you don't move it, you will forever think it isn't quite right. Forever is longer than the picking and re stitching process. I know this from personal experience :D

Tea this weekend? xo

If it was me (and because once I decide something is 'not quite right', whether it actually is or not, it will continue to haunt me), I'd either move it, make the bow smaller, or add some EGA/EGL fake nails to it to even it out. ;)

I would take the time to move it. It looks just fine how it is; however, I do think it would benefit from the adjustment.

I second the suggestion for making the bow a bit smaller.

Isn't the purse made of a material that shows needle holes permanently? I'm not sure you have the option of moving the hand without leaving holen.

From: [identity profile] master-cobweb.livejournal.com

I think it actually looks BETTER off-centre. It looks more like the hand is holding the purse, and that effect would be ruined if the hand was centred, in my opinion. Also, re-doing it seems like a pain in the bloomers. :)

I am pretty certain that moving it over will still obscure any needle holes, due to how the hand would be splayed.

it looks great where it is, I prefer it off center. Honestly you run the risk of ruining the whole purse with holes if you move it too. the ring is such a perfect touch too :)

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Argh, argh, argh, you're probably right. ::sulks:;

Tea possibly this weekend! I have to double-check some other plans, but I am all for tea this weekend!

Definitely don't move it, it'd lose it's organic charm and look too staged if hand + bow were perfectly centered.

Also, while I do love tickyboxes, I also love radio buttons nearly as much if not occasionally moreso.

Well, I certainly do have pink satin ribbon in an assortment of sizes ...

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Yes, dear. And I will try it, because it was a good suggestion.

He's right, but I don't know if it's worth re-doing... What's it' look like without the bow? Something pretty near the handles could take over that "cupcaking of the goth" effect.

Speaking of, does your insane cobbler put new handles on purses? My new purse is about to have no handles due to a clearly flawed stitching. There are o-rings, so it's just attaching to those. Yes, I could find someone here but I also need a pair of shoes worked on and I trust your insane cobbler by default.

What about the tickyboxes! I say we organize a fund raiser. We could call it "Tickybox Awareness" or "TBA" or . . . Wait. That's not right.

From: [identity profile] valdary.livejournal.com

I think you could cheat by tweaking the angle of the bow. Twist top of bow ever so slightly left and bottom ever so slightly right and it would look fine!

From: [identity profile] dravvie.livejournal.com

I like the fake nails suggestion! That would definitely re-center the whole thing!

From: [identity profile] muskrat-john.livejournal.com

Off-Center is the new Center.

It looks great as-is, and therefor I assumed it was meant to look this way. :-)

Your comment just makes me want to put you and the Stroppy One into some sort of artists' stylistic showdown. :) Of course, you'd end up wandering off and talking about RPGs, but the thought is still amusing to me.

Flip the bow around so the point are over the hand.

It looks fine the way it is.
Change it only if it will drive you nuts.
And Maudelynn is right, a smaller bow will keep it from slopping over the side of the purse, and has the advantage of making it look more centered.
