I finished my new skeleton handbag last night. The Stroppy One then looked at it and said, "The hand should be positioned farther over. You didn't take the bow into consideration when you were figuring out where to attach the hand".

I know he's got a point, but I can't decide if the effort of unpicking the stitches, moving the hand, and re-stitching it is worth the difference it would make. Here, have a photo, so you can see what I'm talking about:

New skeleton handbag

So I turn to you, oh wonderful LJ peoples! What do you think?

how about making the bow smaller? that way you don't have to move it.

If you don't move it, you will forever think it isn't quite right. Forever is longer than the picking and re stitching process. I know this from personal experience :D

Tea this weekend? xo

Argh, argh, argh, you're probably right. ::sulks:;

Tea possibly this weekend! I have to double-check some other plans, but I am all for tea this weekend!

If it was me (and because once I decide something is 'not quite right', whether it actually is or not, it will continue to haunt me), I'd either move it, make the bow smaller, or add some EGA/EGL fake nails to it to even it out. ;)

From: [identity profile] dravvie.livejournal.com

I like the fake nails suggestion! That would definitely re-center the whole thing!

From: [identity profile] caleidescopeyes.livejournal.com

I would take the time to move it. It looks just fine how it is; however, I do think it would benefit from the adjustment.

From: [identity profile] missmorte.livejournal.com

I second the suggestion for making the bow a bit smaller.

From: [identity profile] sistawendy.livejournal.com

Isn't the purse made of a material that shows needle holes permanently? I'm not sure you have the option of moving the hand without leaving holen.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I am pretty certain that moving it over will still obscure any needle holes, due to how the hand would be splayed.

From: [identity profile] master-cobweb.livejournal.com

I think it actually looks BETTER off-centre. It looks more like the hand is holding the purse, and that effect would be ruined if the hand was centred, in my opinion. Also, re-doing it seems like a pain in the bloomers. :)

it looks great where it is, I prefer it off center. Honestly you run the risk of ruining the whole purse with holes if you move it too. the ring is such a perfect touch too :)

From: [identity profile] domestinatrix.livejournal.com

Definitely don't move it, it'd lose it's organic charm and look too staged if hand + bow were perfectly centered.

Also, while I do love tickyboxes, I also love radio buttons nearly as much if not occasionally moreso.

From: [identity profile] cass404.livejournal.com

He's right, but I don't know if it's worth re-doing... What's it' look like without the bow? Something pretty near the handles could take over that "cupcaking of the goth" effect.

Speaking of, does your insane cobbler put new handles on purses? My new purse is about to have no handles due to a clearly flawed stitching. There are o-rings, so it's just attaching to those. Yes, I could find someone here but I also need a pair of shoes worked on and I trust your insane cobbler by default.

From: [identity profile] botgrrrl.livejournal.com

What about the tickyboxes! I say we organize a fund raiser. We could call it "Tickybox Awareness" or "TBA" or . . . Wait. That's not right.

From: [identity profile] valdary.livejournal.com

I think you could cheat by tweaking the angle of the bow. Twist top of bow ever so slightly left and bottom ever so slightly right and it would look fine!

Off-Center is the new Center.

It looks great as-is, and therefor I assumed it was meant to look this way. :-)

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Your comment just makes me want to put you and the Stroppy One into some sort of artists' stylistic showdown. :) Of course, you'd end up wandering off and talking about RPGs, but the thought is still amusing to me.

You are SMART. (And pretty and produced an adorable baby.)

Smart. I will try that!

It looks fine the way it is.
Change it only if it will drive you nuts.
And Maudelynn is right, a smaller bow will keep it from slopping over the side of the purse, and has the advantage of making it look more centered.

It's freaking gorgeous either way. A lovely base piece as well.

From: [identity profile] apostle.livejournal.com

There is an art to imperfection. Go with it either way that suits your eye.

My eyes got hung-up on the spacer rods being left on the hand. It seems to me that those holes would be better served as an attachment point without the metal bits.

But, again, that is me. My style is decidedly different from yours. Especially my taste in handbags. =)

I think it looks PERFECTLY FINE where it is! I don't think it would look as GOOD if it were centered...and I work in fashion, so I KNOW! hahahahahaha! :D

Hey, PS...I just was in the John Fluevog store....droooool! I was only in there to talk to them about heel replacements (which I didn't realize you just bring your shoes to them & they can send them out with the replacement heels to get fixed--YAY). BUT I did touch almost EVERY SINGLE PAIR OF SHOES IN THE STORE!!

Don't worry about it. It's like Hello Kitty's bow: more charming for being asymmetrical.

From: [identity profile] heir-of-timur.livejournal.com

This is such an amazing idea, and the result is perfect. You could totally sell these. I know I'd buy!

composition vs breakage

I agree with Pete that it should be moved - when it is handing, the fingers should go down. Is it at all subject to breaking? Would the tips of the fingers be more fragile?
