Thank you to everyone who gave feedback on the previous post. You're all very right, I shouldn't let things like that get to me. I am looking into ways to re-organize things over at GCS so the reviews are a little more separated from the advice posts, with the help of the always-awesome [livejournal.com profile] leenerella.

In other news: I just got off the phone with my recruiter, and I have a job interview on Monday afternoon! Whoo! (Watch me get a job just as all of my writing projects take off. It's the way things go in my life.)

In other other news, ooooh, the mail brought me spaaarkly pink jewelry. Mmm, pink rhinestone choker and bonus bracelet.

In (::stops to count::) other other other news, I'm trying to decide if I want to put something through a dye bath or not. I have a black & pink striped skirt and matching cincher/belt, made for me long ago by Louise Black.

The problem is, the pink is a touch too coral, not my true cupcake pink. (Plus the skirt is a shade or two lighter than the cincher.) I'm considering putting them both in a black dye bath. You know what this means, right? Time for a poll!

not helping...

If you put it on the for sale pile, I'd buy at least the skirt! That's one I'd wear :-)

From: [identity profile] theosakakoneko.livejournal.com

I dunno, it seems too gorgeous to risk the dye with! What if it came out streaky or something, or the fabric didn't take? I think it's too gorgeous as is! It's a beautiful color and it's good to have a little variety (even if we are only talking about a slightly different shade!). I think it looks gorgeous in this photo..and if you added that pink x black hat from the review you just wrote it'd be perfect! You should wear it more!!

I'm surprised the corset and skirt don't match though, they look like they're the same fabric!

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

They are the same fabric! But the skirt is definitely lighter than the cincher.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Y'know, it indeed might be because the cincher is lined with a black cotton, and the skirt is unlined. I didn't even think of that!

From: [identity profile] theosakakoneko.livejournal.com

Any chance just wearing a black skirt under it (or adding a pseudo lining yourself) would fix the slight mismatch?

From: [identity profile] tinkerbell86ca.livejournal.com

That cincher makes me drool . . .

And I must say, your eyebrows look lovely.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Hee! Thank you for the eyebrow compliment, because I do put a bit of effort into them. :)

From: [identity profile] tinkerbell86ca.livejournal.com

You are most welcome milady!

My eyebrows are a sorry site . . . from far away they look ok, but they really need shaping and tweezing. Maybe this weekend I shall hunt down my tweezers . . .

I like yours because well they are thin, they look really good on you. Not odd like some thin brows tend to look. Plus, they make your eyes look bigger.

From: [identity profile] sashstar.livejournal.com

I also always love the look of your eyebrows!! May I ask what techniques you use to achieve it? Tweezers or waxing etc? Any advice or info would be great! :o)

If there was a way to match the pinks as a previous poster suggested, then I would do that. Otherwise, dye it! You know, providing that the fabric can handle it.

From: [identity profile] icprncs.livejournal.com

Is the pink too dark already for a mauve dye bath? That would get you closer to your preferred shade.

From: [identity profile] alumiere.livejournal.com

This seconds my suggestion. Rather than black, make them brighter/deeper pink; depending on how they take dye a deep red might work too (is there a scrap you can test on?).

Also, if it's not 100% cotton or not taking dye well, you might try using special effects as a dye. One bottle to a large dishpan of warm h2o, & let sit for 2 hours to 24 hours - I had good luck with that on synthetic bridesmaids dresses back in the day.

Finally, if the skirt is slightly lighter than the cincher afterwords, the black lining may be the last step it needs.

From: [identity profile] tiatsuchi.livejournal.com

This is probably just annoying, but if you do a black dye bath remember to double (or quadruple) the dye to get the right depth of black. The procion dyes I have been reading up on all say that, but I don't know if commercial dyes do or not. Black dye is tricky stuff! (but you probably know this already you eldergoth you!)

I don't think you'll end up wearing it much if it's just another black skirt & cincher. Someone else would likely be delighted to find them in that shade of pink. The time in between jobs is the very best time for culling and letting go.

Good luck on Monday. Is it FTE or contract?

From: [identity profile] domestinatrix.livejournal.com

Yes, we like job leads! There are also definitely some advantages to a contract position when you also have other projects that you want to continue giving some of your attention to.

Exactly my thought! And, now that Louise Black has been on TV, you could probably get a decent chunk of change for 'em, which you could put toward getting another set which is perfect from the get-go!

Good luck on the interview! I'll send good vibes!

re: dying them, why not a color dye instead of black? try to punch up the color? provided that fabric wants to take dye at all...

good luck with the interview!

From: [identity profile] insigniaeclipse.livejournal.com

I vote dye bath but I like the previous suggestions on lining the skirt with black instead :D. Good luck on your interview!!

From: [identity profile] snoissesbo.livejournal.com

I would suggest a dye bath but not necessarily a black one. Perhaps something that would darken the pink stripes to a deep burgundy or make them look black-on-black but still visible?

Your blouse is absolutely lovely, by the way <3

From: [identity profile] typsy-gypsy.livejournal.com

They are so pretty... I voted to NOT dye them (whether you keep or sell them), because I wouldn't want to risk their destruction. AND, as so many others have said, I'D buy them and wear them with glee!

You could... you know... send them to me out of the generosity of your frosted little heart... ya know, if you wanted. :D

Please, while you think about it, enjoy my icon!

From: [identity profile] valerian.livejournal.com

I chose no, just because I've had such bad luck with dying things black (boy have I ever - I ruined my favorite summer dress, that was I guess made from two different bolts of fabric. Some panels dyed fine and others barely took the dye at all so it looked just horrible.)

If you're not really keen on them anymore you might be better off selling them. 'Cause if the dye doesn't work, you'll have a) something you *really* won't wear, and b) neither will anyone else. :/

This happened to me recently, but thankfully it wasn't a precious item. Damn polyester blends!

As we both know, me giving advice in the world of fashion is a dark and dangerous road.

However, hearty congratulations on the job interview!

From: [identity profile] dykestar.livejournal.com

I clicked ticky box because I'm easily distracted, but honestly I love it just the way it is and wouldn't change the outfit at all!

From: [identity profile] caleidescopeyes.livejournal.com

Obviously, the photo can't really give the greatest representation of the pink's true hue (whoo-hey, rhyme). Regardless, using the photo as a reference, the pink doesn't seem too rabidly coral to me. I can definitely tell that it's a punchier pink than your usual, cool-toned cupcake pink. But it doesn't scream 'old lady lipstick' coral to me, or anything.

From: [identity profile] bijouxdejais.livejournal.com

If imperfectly matched shades of pink bother you, I doubt dyeing them will help; then you'll just have two darker, still slightly mismatched shades. I wouldn't fuss about it!

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

dye them either deeper pink, in your shade, or deep red, I think. Unless you think the black dye will leave them 2 shades of black.

From: [identity profile] girlgoth.livejournal.com

I agree. Going with a very cool shade of dark pink or cool red will deepen them in the range you want, and still be able to go with the lighter pinks.

That's what I'd probably do (but do a test patch first), because I have the same feelings about wearing pinks vs corals.
