In the course of re-organizing/culling the skirts yesterday, I unearthed a skirt that I LOVE the fabric of, but that is made in a style that is not as flattering for me as it could be. The skirt is a heavyweight black-on-black stripe, and is the type that is gathered (very tidily!) at the waist, with a waistband. I look better in skirts that are panel or circle skirts, without a bunch of fabric gathered at the waistline.

So, my question!

What about taking the waistband off, and putting a yoke in (possibly made of panels) in some other type of black fabric that blends with the stripe? Then there are no waist gathers; you can have some gathering where the skirt meets the yoke or just take out some of the fabric so it's only the yoke size at the join, then flare it out lower.

I hate it when really heavy fabric is gathered- it doesn't even *feel* right!

My selfish personal choice is "Sell it (to me)" but really, this is useless without photos so that we can see the construction and get an idea of the difficulty involved.

That wouldn't perchance be the black on black striped skirt I made for you a few years back, would it? If so, please, refashion it with my blessing. Second thought is to sell it because yes, you're coveting fluevogs, but if you sell it, consider me first, cuz I'd just cut the waistband down & wear it right to death. :)

It is that skirt. :) It's so beautifully constructed, but I just never wear it. And yes, I am coveting Fluevogs ...

If you're not firmly set on making into a skirt, there's always the option of making it into something else entirely. Maybe a couple giant bows that can be affixed to other items, a little handbag, some elegant gauntlets, trim for a hat . . . :)

Whilst I agree with most of the posters, I do think that it might be time for a rehashing with the original designer. She would remember construction notes on it (hopefully) and therefore might be able to offer some suggestions on how to make it better suited to the style you seek. If the fabric is as great as you say it is, it's worth it to get it reworked. If however, it sounds a tad more complicated than you can commit to (which does happen, as my crochet hooks sit unused while I try to remember how that all comes together to make things) then selling it is an acceptable option.

Also, I love tickyboxes but forgot to mark that choice as well. :D

I see a seam-ripper and scissors in this skirt's future.
