Everyone must go look at this picture right now! http://www.life.com/image/93166253

Those are my darling ladies [livejournal.com profile] kambriel and [livejournal.com profile] acid_poptart at the MOMA film benefit honoring Tim Burton. I am so, SO happy for them that they were able to be there!

Thank you for all the Bombast!/Symphonic Metal recommendations, peeps! I now have more Within Temptation on Renfield the iPod, and will be sure to check out the other bands you mentioned. Except Evanescence, because I already know that there is something about the vocalist's voice that makes me want to grind my teeth.

As I said to someone in the assorted comments, I really kind of live in a musical isolation chamber. I have the stuff that I listen to, and don't learn about anything else unless someone waves their hands and says "Jilli! You must listen to this!" Let me put it this way: I have been known to not only listen to the same playlist or band over and over for days, I have been known to listen to the same song on repeat for hours at an end, because my brain goes now is the time we listen to "Last Of The Famous International Playboys" and nothing else.

See that very spiffy stripey blazer I'm wearing? Proof that the Infamous BlueJay is a rock star.

Oh man, I do the same thing with playlists and individual songs. I'm the kind of person who can get the iTunes 'number of times you've played this song' thing up to 500 in nothing flat. It drives everyone I know crazy, haha.

"now is the time we listen to "Last Of The Famous International Playboys" and nothing else."

I see nothing wrong with this.

9 more days!!!! :D

OH COOL!! they look really cute! OH MAN!! AND SO LUCKY TO GET TO GO TO THAT EXHIBIT!! WAH! I'm bitter!!

Following the Within Temptation vein of music, have you ever heard Xandria?

From: [identity profile] kambriel.livejournal.com

Thank you friend!

You'd be so excited ~ Tim even called me "The Mad Hatter" the next day (he really liked a hat I had made and was asking about it), he thought PopTart looked great too :)

I'm *still* filled with glee about it all!

They look great! I especially like the shoulders on Kambriel's outfit.

Your outfit is so cute, especially the skirt! I like your shoes, too. I'm having a hard time finding lace up boots that don't have lugged soles (I have plenty of Doc-type boots but would like some that look more old fashioned.)

That's awesome. That blazer is cute. I see you're throwing the horns today. As for listening to the same song on infinite repeat, I have a habit of doing so too. ^_^

have another pic for you

You get to keep this one too. Check LJ messages.

P.S. Do you name the top hats as well?

Eeeee!

Do we have confirmation that the show hasn't been canceled?

From: [identity profile] nebulasan.livejournal.com

I like it and it fits you very well I might add.

These things happen. To be fair, it's a really good song?

Adorable jacket. I've noticed that you tend to wear flats a lot. Is it that your preference or do you have larger heels, too?

From: [identity profile] icprncs.livejournal.com

THANKS FOR THE EARWORM.

And the additional household supersonic squealing.

(The jacket's adorable.)

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

Ahahaha! Those particular boots have somewhere around a 2.5 - 3" platform heel to them, but are amazingly stable and feel like sneakers. My beloved Fluevog Babycakes have a 3" heel. My lace-up granny boots have a 2.5" heel.

But, those are the only types of heels I wear. They have to be wide and stable. Otherwise, I live in flats.

Awww, thank you! I love seeing your artwork.

No, I do not name the top hats. Tho' there is a certain appeal to that idea ...

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I would apologize for the earworm, but really, considering who you married, I reel that I shouldn't.

(BlueJay did an amazing job on the jacket! She obsessively matched stripes, because she is a crazy person!)

I do that with music, too. First of all, it means I'm always several years behind everyone else. It's embarrassing to get into, say, Flight of the Concords, when they are OLD NEWS to everyone else.

But I also do the "I must listen to this over and over" thing. If you ever want to semi-embarrass yourself, both iTunes and the iPod have an option for "most-listened to." Yeah. Did did I really need to know that I've listen to "SexyBack" fifty-something times? Or that "Gobbledigook" by Sigur Ros was a close second? Yikes!

From: [identity profile] kambriel.livejournal.com

I think we will be for some time to come! I'm just in the "it really wasn't just a dream" phase now and trying to make sure I don't forget any individual moments :)

Oh and for the infinite repeat songs? At least now you *can* program the songs to repeat like that ~ I remember being in the mood to hear "All Night Long" by Peter Murphy again and again ~back when it was new~ on my cassette walkman! Of course that meant I had to keep rewinding the tape to get to the beginning of the song each time it finished playing... I got to the point where I knew pretty much exactly how long it took to do that!

Pardon me. I, too, occasionally listen to "The Last of the Famous International Playboys" over and over and over and over and over again.

My favorite way to discover new music is Pandora. Just create an account on Pandora.com and create a station for a song or band whose musicial style you like and *poof* new music! There's even an iPhone app. :)

OK, so I'm a bit envious, too. ***sigh*** Ah well... I'm loving your outfit along with everyone else (hmm...does this mean I'm turning into a CONFORMIST? ***gasp***). Totally loving the boots--I always have trouble with that as I have VERY WIDE calves (& feet) and a very small piggy bank for such things.

I also remember having to rewind my cassettes to replay favourite songs over and over. I even remember...RECORDS (yes, ladies and jellyspoons...that would be those discs made of VINYL!!!) and moving the needle back to the start of the song...over and over...(fond memories of Disentegration...among other things).

Anyway, just wanted to share my comments...now, off to other as yet undecided things...

Ooh...I just love your icon. Jared is one of my favourites! :)

This may be WAY off, but have you listened to Lame Immortelle (it's not lame, but I can't do the apostrophe thingy)? They're a duo- the man has a deep, angry voice and the woman is more operatic. Their music has reavy rock and electronic elements, and the lyrics often speak of tragic love stories (in German or some other language).
Other bands that I think might appeal to you (though they lack bombast):
Razorbladekisses. It's the UK's only EGL band. They are sort of Switchblade Symphony copy cats, though.
Scarling.- Although the vocalist Jessicka was in Jack Off Jill who may have creeped into mallgoth territory, in a review they were described as the 'new goth'- syrupy vocals, gloomy atmosphere and dark lyrics. Whatever they are, I like them a lot.
Last fm. is a good social site for musical recommendations. You hook it up to your iPod or media player and it tracks your play history. Based on these 'scrobbles', it suggests bands that other people who liked who have your tastes.

Your outfit is fabulous, as always.
Die Form. They did an album of Beethoven that's quite Gothic.

I'm the same about music. In fact, I think from 1993 - 2002 I listened to the soundtrack for The Phantom of the Opera and not much else.

That jacket is phenomenal.
