Argh. I somehow missed the post from a few weeks ago on [livejournal.com profile] egl about this. Baby the Stars Shine Bright are releasing items made from a print they call Vampire Requiem.

Oh my. Look at this skirt. (clicky-link!)

Why yes, I want that skirt. I would have to wear a corset to fit into it, and I don't really think the skirt is worth almost $200, but goodness, it's cute.

ahh yes vampire requiem skirt. i too am ridiculously in love with it. it's been such a long time since i've seen a great gothic styled skirt, but i don't think it's worth $200 either. perhaps maybe in a year or two when the price drops for it 2nd hand i'd consider it.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I'm just worried it will turn into one of those incredibly rare, hard-to-find pieces! It's so, so charming.

I think they know its going to make many a dark heart go pitter patter is why they can charge $200. If it were longer I'd have to look twice and count my pennies. What a gorgeous print.

At least there's shirring, so you might not need the corset.

From: [identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com

The dresses have shirring and fit a fairly wide (for a Japanese brand) range of sizes, the skirt is waaaay tiny. I'm a fairly skinny girl for an American, and the waist is several inches too small for me.

From: [identity profile] tiatsuchi.livejournal.com

It really depends on the amount of shirring, and who made it. I've heard of shirred garments being able to fit up to 40" waists. It's just impossible to know how much give there is until somebody actually buys one and tries it on. Hopefully someone in egl_plus will get it, and then there'll be more knowledge about the sizing. Sadly, the plus and tall lolita sectors are frequently ignored. I'm sure eventually that someone will see fit to cater to that market.

From: [identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com

Oh, trust me, I know that some shirring stretches. But the listing for the skirt tells you:

Waist:60~70cm
(23.63~27.56inch)

Which I assume means it only stretches to 70cm. Maybe I'm wrong? I only own a Bodyline dress that's shirred, and it's still tight on me; next time I'm going to make sure I'm near the bottom of the size range.

In contrast, one of the dresses says:

Waist:72~82cm
(28.35inch~32.29inch)

Which is a bigger size.

I'm honestly surprised that more brands (especially the ones popular among Americans like BtSSB and Angelic Pretty) don't make bigger/taller sizes. I know some of the American brands (and certainly commission seamstresses) do.

That's my fault for not reading the whole page. Another thing you can do is frankenstein two of them together, or add some panels. It wouldn't be the same, though, I know. I need to take up screen printing...

From: [identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com

I understand why brands don't just sell fabric with their prints on it--I can only imagine the bad sewing that would result, and be associated with their name--but I still wish they would. *sigh* I have a friend who is an excellent seamstress with an interest in lolita, it would be so awesome to get custom-made dresses, as my chest is a bit bigger than your average Japanese woman's, and it makes dresses tight and/or pull up short!

*stare*

Y...yes...I can see why you want. The skirt itself is easy. Getting that print on is the tricky part, which is, of course, what makes it so full of win.

From: [identity profile] shinimegami7.livejournal.com

lol and this is why i do not by brand! granted if i did have the money i'd so buy it. XD but bodyline all the way for me!!

From: [identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com

I know what you mean. Gawd. I keep telling myself that there's no shame in wearing Bodyline/non-loli stuff that works in loli outfits (like Forever 21)/homemade stuff. Then I see a fabulous print like this. And I cry.

Once I'm employed again I think I'm just going to have to give myself a modest paypal budget every month and start stalking comm_sales. Because I'm tired of having exactly one "real" lolita dress (the Bodyline replica of the AP Musical Note dress) and one Bodyline blouse that I don't really like and doesn't really fit!

From: [identity profile] mirandapadgett.livejournal.com

That skirt needs to come live in my closet stat.

From: [identity profile] semy-of-pearls.livejournal.com

I offer this: Find me a source of that material, and I shall endeavor to make you the skirt to fit your Western waist (as opposed to those tiny Japanese figures.)

From: [identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com

Unfortunately, prints like that are made custom for the brand name. That's part of why they're so valuable.

Here's hoping someone like Bodyline makes a non-awful knockoff.

From: [identity profile] chibi-red-stars.livejournal.com

Im coveting this myself, too bad Im ALWAYS too strapped for cash when I need it.

I'm hoping maybe a while down the line I'll be able to buy it second hand from someone on EGL Community Sales on here.

I think 200 is ridiculous but sadly not the most expensive BTSSB skirt I've ever wanted. *sighs* Oh well I guess I'll be adding it to my ever growing wishlist!

Good luck for you in getting one as well!

From: [identity profile] lylassandra.livejournal.com

And for once, I think I actually like the cream version best. How completely gorgeous!

From: [identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com

I want it too, but being unemployed I can't justify it, especially since I'd only wear it a few times a year, near Halloween and to the Vampire Ball.

I don't think BtSSB has any idea how crazy the Americans have gone for this print. If the reservations haven't sold out already, they quickly will.

I'd tell you to keep an eye on the comm_sales community, but I know that popular Angelic Pretty prints go *up* in price quite quickly, and this will probably do the same. Dammit!!

From: [identity profile] wickedsnicket.livejournal.com

That's just too adorable! BtSSB will never come in my size, however skirt makes me want to try Spoonflower (http://www.spoonflower.com/welcome). Not to copy Baby of course, it might be fun to try and come up with my own brand of spooky cuteness.

From: [identity profile] ohladylovecraft.livejournal.com

At the expense of sounding utterly noobish, how exactly does one order from this site? I'm actually dying to order one of these and willing to spend the ridiculous $200... but I can't figure out how... >.>

From: [identity profile] ieatedyourcooki.livejournal.com

T_T I've been drooling over that for a while. *wants it in red*

*curses* I would have to lose another 2 inches for that.

From: [identity profile] whitewildrose77.livejournal.com

excuse me while I mop up the drool off the floor. It's beautiful I must have it and yet I can't afford it.

From: [identity profile] nightmrstallion.livejournal.com

Why I will never been seen wearing anything from BTSSB:

#1: It's all great stuff, but it's all WAY overpriced. I would totally buy the blue one, if I had the cash to burn. Shipping to US? Add $20 to any shipping costs you see.

#2: I'm also no where near a size 2. They make clothes for the average Japanese size girl, not average American girl.

#3: An interview with the Gothic Lolita American magazine/book, the two creators of Baby said real lolitas only wear Japanese lolita fashions, because anything else is... wrong.
