You would think, wouldn't you, that trying to come up with what I want to pack for the NYC trip would not be so mind-numbingly difficult. But nooooo. I know what I'm wearing to the big picnic event, that's no question. But for Friday night's reading? No clue. For doing touristy things? Haven't the faintest idea.

The problem is, of course, that I have a bunch of items in my closets I am currently enamored with. But the weather in NYC this weekend is supposed to be ... warm. Well, warmer than *I* prefer. So no boots (unless I get very lucky, and a Certain Special Box shows up in the next few days), no stripy stockings, and cute stripy blazers or well-fitted black jackets (no matter how lightweight of fabrics) are Right Out. (Dammit.)

So. Black peep-toe flats? Lace or fishnet tights? (Helpful summertime tip I learned last year from someone on [livejournal.com profile] steamfashion: when you're going to be traipsing around in hot weather, wear fishnets or lace tights and dampen them with cool water. The water evaporates, thus keeping you cool! I did this at Disneyland during the recent L.A. trip, and it worked like a charm.)

Charming waistcoats, obviously (and oooh, I just got a fantastic one from Lip Service, wheee!), short-sleeved ruffly blouses, waist cinchers, fluffy skirts and petticoats, and maybe some bustle-y overskirts? Boy, do I wish I had a top hat made of black straw, and there is not enough time to get one of the natural straw top hats and color it.

And let us not even contemplate the complete dither I am going to be thrown into by contemplating packing for San Diego Comic Con. Oh lord.

Dear Dread Spirits of the Postal Service, if you could see your way to making two certain packages arrive today, that would be Very Helpful.

---

In addition to fashion dithering, I must dye my hair, job hunt, and write a GCS update. Which means I should go motivate myself to do stuff, instead of going "Oooh, shiny internets!"

It's not the style I've typically seen you wear, but I have a pair of knee-high ghille boots that are very comfortable in too-warm weather, since the entire front of the boot is open for laces. They're flat-soled men's boots, but I know a number of women (rennie and goth) who find them comfy (especially with an insole insert)and quite flattering.

Not that I should be waving boots at you right before a trip to New York...

Ha! In many ways, I am your opposite. The closest thing I've made to a fashion decision in weeks was going out of my way to decide what t-shirt I was going to wear today (souvenir shirt from our Glacier National Park trip.)

There are days when I wish I wasn't such a schlub, but then I think about the amount of energy I would have to spend.

See: Everything I have said about C15 in the past few weeks (well, maybe not the stuff about sewing failures and self-loathing). And it's going to be warm down there, too. I empathize.

The good news is that even though it's supposed to be in the low 80's this weekend, it hasn't been very humid at all - if the weather holds up it will be breezy enough to combat the worst of the heat.

I'd do fishnets, because they seem to be the coolest hose I've ever worn.

I know it's still warmer than you'd like, but we're lucking out as far as the weather gods go at this time of year. It can be *swelteringly* hot in NYC at this time of year (compounded by the fact that many apartments don't have central air), so high 70's-low 80's (and remember, those are just the highs ~ in the evenings it will be cooler) is actually pretty good all said. The high for Saturday is 77 ~ after Madame Kat's garden party last year in the mid-90's, that sounds like pure bliss.

I don't know what to bring either! I'm eyeing the cotton :) The main challenge for me is I'm only travelling with carry on luggage, so I have to perform a miracle of physics to pull this off. I'll be wishing both of us luck!

Let me know if you have time earlier in the day on Friday and would like to go to St. John's Cathedral with us to marvel at the gothic architecture and catch our breath for a while.

two things:

1. yes to fishnets for the coolth factor

2. I will be in NYC

2a. I will be at your reading
2b. I am planning to wear my fave black dress (if it fits, ugh, otherwise I WILL have a plan B) and some truly amazing new shoes

ooo that is a helpful tip!

go for something that is mostly lightweight fabrics that you can layer and remove layers from without.. er.. sharing what your underthings are made of with everyone (or at least do so in a way that it is unspecific enough to not make the Stroppy One make faces).

Dammit, I wish I could be in two places at once! Wishing you much fun & success this weekend! :D
