cupcake_goth: (Oh My!)
([personal profile] cupcake_goth Jun. 1st, 2009 08:48 pm)
So, today was kind of a busy day. We officially found out that [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage's computer was dead. I, erm, posted the first Gothic Charm School video. (I swear I'll stop feeling mildly nervous about that Real Soon Now. Honest.) A huge, HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has been sharing the video with others! I appreciate it more than I possibly can express, but thank you very much.

What else did I do today? Oh yeah, I made a skirt (black with black glitter pinstripes! Ruffles!), answered some emails (including one from a friend of a friend who asked to interview me as part of a school project), braved the burning orb in quest of iced coffee, and purchased a bottle of SPF100 sunblock. (Do you people have any idea how long we Goths have been joking about SPF100? And now it's a reality! Oh rapturous day!)

Tomorrow involves more email, packaging up postcards for mailing out, and oooh, a chiropractor visit so the migraine that's been looming at the edges of my brain for a few days will GO AWAY. If I'm really clever and organized, tomorrow might also involve making another skirt. (I have some pink skull brocade all cut out and ready to go, I just need to dig it out from wherever I put it for safekeeping.)

also, one of my friends watched it and said he actually learned something from it. I thought you might like to know this. :)

so what brand has SPF100? I am thinking you should get an endorsement from them for the book...

I miss gloating about the Orb to you in real time. I hope I'll be doing it again soon.

And I too - for many reasons, really really want to know more about the SPF 100 !!! Scented?

And I want to see the skirt!!! My migraine is kicking my ass too.
HUGS and I agree - breathe!!!!!

Re: I made a set for Clovis

The SPF100 is by Neutrogena, and it doesn't seem scented to *me*.

Set for Clovis?! Eeee, I must go look at it.

I serged the runner today! So it's all ready to go.

For the record, I've had some fantastic results with making my own goo with zinc oxide powder. I find that if I mix it straight into other lotions it does this weird thing where it separates some of the water out, but I'm sure I can fix that with more chemistry. I made buckets of the stuff for Burning Man a while back with coco and shea butters, almond oil, beeswax and one other thing I can't remember. We discovered that coating one's body in a layer of waxy fat in 114 degree heat with high humidity (yes, that year was humid) was a bad plan, but the theory is sound.

The point is, one can make one's own industrial strength yet hippie-lovin sunscreen that also brightens the complexion and soothes irritation, as zinc oxide is the active ingredient in most tush balms for bebehs.
I just have to figure out the lotion....maybe it's just a shake lotion.....suspend in oil?....

I need that sunblock. I've got that kind of skin that if I even look out the window for more than a second, I start to burn. My left arm is all covered in brown sundamage spots from the sun coming in the window of the car. I'll probably be the only person to ever die from skin cancer caused by driving.

We need to get together. Soon. I shall be buying crumpets at the market tomorrow and I still have a jar strawberry lavender jelly with your name on it. I know you have tea. ^_^
