Today, to walk to the thrift store, fabric store, and grocery store, it was cool enough to

  • black pointy-toe flats

  • black & orange narrow-striped socks

  • black straight stretch velvet skirt w/ multiple rows of lace trim at the hem

  • black stretch velvet overdress w/ white satin collar & cuffs. Yes, just like Wednesday Addams

Walking home, I was stopped by an elderly lady who asked me about my clothes, said that she's seen other people dressed in a similar style, and thought it was absolutely lovely. I (very briefly) explained Goth to her. She was tickled by the whole concept, and announced that she was going to start wearing all the elaborate black clothes she always wanted to. She also said that she had wanted to ask me about my look ever since she saw me, but didn't feel comfortable about doing so until she figured out I lived in the neighborhood.

Next shallow fashion rambling:

I'm dithering about what the heck I'm going to wear to Pirate Night this Saturday. At this point, the only things I know for sure that I'm wearing are a black satin overbust Victorian-style corset, a black velvet frock coat, and a black tricorn w/ black coque feather trim. What I'm still dithering about? White foofy pirate shirt or black sheer-ish one (worn under the corset & frock coat, of course)? Knee-length black velvet bloomers w/ lace trim, worn with vertically-striped stockings & buckle shoes, or giant black & white striped ball skirt? I'm leaning towards the black sheer pirate shirt and velvet bloomers worn under the corset, with the frock coat topping it all off (and covering my butt, thankyouverymuch), but I just! can't! decide! Why yes, I'll be subjecting The Husband to a mini fashion show to help me decide, how ever did you guess?

Speaking of

The Gothique fashion show is coming up in October, and I'm modeling in it. Wheeee! I spoke to the designer today, and she has some faaaaaaabulous ideas for what I'm going to be wearing and how her portion of the show is going to go, theme-wise. I'll be doing the shameless promotion thing about the show when it gets closer to the actual date.

See? Completely frivolous, all of this.
