I need a patron. (I would say I need a sugar daddy, but the Stroppy One would be - understandably - displeased at the notion.)

VICTORIAN 1800 BAT FANGS JAW TEETH ENGRAVED WATCH FOB
(Clicky-link!)

I cannot textually render how much I covet this item. The flailing! The squeaking! The grabbyhands at the monitor! I am going to save all the photos in hopes of someday being able to commission someone to re-create it.

Wow. It's so dainty. That picture above makes it look huge and rawr an scary and then you look at the comparison pictures and it's the size of a quarter. Nifty!

That? Is MADE OF AWESOME. And if I had the spare income, I'd be your patron and bestow it on you.

You won't have to fight me for it.

You've found another instance where your taste and mine diverge.

That's unbelievably evil, until you see it next to a quarter. Then it becomes adorable and evil!

I love it, but it's also kind of gross when it's open, like you're carrying around someone's false teeth...

I feel sorry for the poor bat, but that is so amazingly cool.

I was visiting with artist Jim Christianson one day, and he has a case in his studio that has various animal skulls in it. They were very cool to look at.

you know...

Two friends of mine have a beetle box in the their garage. They drop dead animals (either from road kill or donated perished pets from friends) in the box all the time and within a few days you have a perfectly white clean skeleton to use. They have a vast collection of skulls and he works in a metal shop and has designed much of their own personal jewelry.

I'll introduce you at the ball.

Hmmm..

Nothing really complicated there...

The chain appears to be silver plate, the clasp is pretty standard, the engraving is not complicated...(heck the chain links aren't even soldered) I've got all the tools to do that fabrication, including the engraving.

The only thing I couldn't find material wise in under 30 min of shopping is the bat skull, but I know a few places to look.

In short I could make a very close copy or an original in the same genre. Save the pictures and feel free to discuss this with me at some point.

Re: Hmmm..

::flail flail flail::

Really?! Because I can track down a bat skull, no problem. Time for me to save the pictures ...

I say

Get it

It is a one of a kind, old you can wear it on your book tour hell use it as a write off with next years taxies as a thing needed for the book. That would cost that much to have made and well you only go around once, eat ramen noodles for a month and you will be fine..

so I say get it if you can as that is so rare and so one of a kind it is worth it.

Its only the cost of two pairs of good boots any way.

Or

Have the person above who says they can make in no issue do it.

Off topic: Just finished Vampire Kisses. Combination of "too cute" versus picks at emotional scabs of having "grown up in Dullsville". I will no doubt have to read some more.

You might like Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires books a bit better in that the character is in college and it's not quite as cute (but may still pick at emotional scabs). She has about a chapter and a half of the first book on her web site - which is really smart because I decided I liked it enough to buy a book after reading the bit she posted: http://www.rachelcaine.com/Books/Pages/Morganville_Vampires.html

Somehow I missed this post last week - which is not too surprising given how busy I was. I agree that's really nifty and totally worth coveting. If the folks who have offered start making these I know *I* would be interested in one too...

you know the only thing that i can think of, for this project, would be to get ahold of people who make fangs. you could get a casting & then customize it & then place it in some sort of framing for gewlery..or something along those lines.
