Hey! The H.P. Lovecraft Short Film Festival is this weekend! I won't be attending because I have other stuff filling up my schedule, but I wanted to help promote it. Take a look at this post for more info (Clicky-link!)

---

Speaking of promotion, on May 23 you really want to attend the Clang/Bang Cabaret Sepiachord event. (Clicky-link!) And guess what? Gothic Charm School is one of the co-hosts. Get dressed up and come on out!

---

In other news, I'm waiting on answers to some emails and it's driving me MAAAAAAAAD. Help me, I need pleasant distractions.

Shall I distract you with the tale of how I took a Famous Author to Ye Olde Goth Clubbe last night, and how fabulous we looked, and the adorable boy with the big punk Mohawk who danced with me?

(The Famous Author is [livejournal.com profile] matociquala, and I've known her for yearsandyears, so I have not exactly gotten famous or anything, but still, Famous Author!)

Well, the first important thing is that I convinced [livejournal.com profile] matociquala to drive so that I could wear my Pennangalans (http://www.pennangalan.com/boots/FW83.php), in which I cannot drive. As it was St. Patrick's Day, although Ye Olde Gothe Clubbe (http://www.thehavenclub.com/) was not observing it as such, I wore the skirt you see in the icon, and paired it with a sleeveless Vivienne Tam top covered in square black sequins stitched on cornerwise. [livejournal.com profile] matociquala had a black velvet skirt, a green silk shirt, and a dark men's waistcoat, and a glitzy green scarf. Alas, we did not take pictures, but I think we looked great.

The DJs were in Crowd Pleaser mode rather than Music Snob mode -- "Panzermensch" followed by VNV Nation followed by "Straight to Video" and it kept going like that, with familiar songs that it was not possible to stay sitting down for.

I will continue in the next comment.

There was also a fair amount of eye candy, suited to all genders and preferences. One sight that warmed the cockles of my ancient heart was a young fellow in a large, black, thoroughly spiked Mohawk, and baggy black pants and a red plaid shirt over a T-shirt. It's so nice to see the young ones holding up the traditions!

Said mohawked boy was also a very energetic dancer, and appeared equally pleased to go full-contact with a pink-haired girl and a bleached-blond flamboyantly gay boy he seemed to know. Also heartwarming.

And, as the evening progressed, he was also interested in dancing with me! And he had delightful manners about it -- first, an exchange of glances and grins, and then a non-bawdy brush of contact that, had I not been interested, I could have danced away from far enough to deflect, and then waiting for me to turn into the contact before he turned it into dancing-with. Entirely non-verbal, but PLAIN AS DAY. It was a joy.

I didn't exchange contact information with him -- better to maintain a sense of mystery, perhaps, and I've also got the sneaking suspicion that I'm old enough to be his MOTHER -- but perhaps he'll be there next week, and even if he's not, it was a bright moment in my existence.

WAIT 'til you see the hat I've made to go with the dress!

How are you feeling, babygirl? Is your neck doing any better?

A touch better. I saw Sara Bayer last night and that helped some.
