Y'know, I hope that the American public will recognize the selection of Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate for the cynical ploy that it is. Or that they'll at least realize that this country does not need another four years of Republican "leadership". But that hope doesn't keep me from worrying.

---

So, coffee. Yesterday I caved, and purchased a double-tall iced Americano from the cafeteria. It was ... what I expected. As in, over-roasted, on the bitter side, and while certainly recognizable as coffee, it wasn't the coffee I was craving.

This morning, because I wanted GOOD coffee badly enough to get out of bed earlier, we went to Cafe Besalu and stood in line. And stood in line. And watched the Connector Bus sail down the street, heading to the stop I pick it up at. But! The bus was running early, the driver waited at the stop, and I was able to finally satisfy my craving for a heavenly double-tall iced Americano and a pain au chocolat AND still catch my bus.

(A couple of you made the very sensible suggestion that I get a French press and keep some good coffee at work, thus solving the whole problem. Which is a clever idea, except for the fact that I don't really drink coffee that often any more. I've almost entirely switched to tea; it's just that every now and then I crave REALLY GOOD coffee.)

Worlds of this. I would hope this can be seen through for its transparency but I am not so sure it can. Argh.

Wait...SARAH Palin?

Darn. I was hoping for a Python alumn. His travel show is funny.

Darn. Well at least she's under a corruption investigation at the moment; seems she tried to get a state trooper fired (her ex-brother-in-law) after he divorced her sister. When the trooper's boss said no, she fired HIM.

Re: Wait...SARAH Palin?

Yeah, but according to the Times Online, the ex-brother-in-law shot his 11-year-old stepson with a Taser and threatened his father-in-law's life...

As I posted in another friend's LJ:

I honestly don't get McCain's campaign. He just totally destroyed his "too young and inexperienced to be president" argument against Obama. And possibly the "celebrity" thing too - wasn't she once a beauty queen?

I just don't get it at all...

She's pure counter programing with a dash of appeal to the conservative base.

She's a woman (for Hilary supporters) Young, conservative Christian, and anti-abortion. She basically is an attempt to shore up McCain's weak spots.

I get that...it's just that the negatives seem to far outweight the positives...it's an odd choice, to me. YMMV.

It's terribly disappointing that there are obviously people out there who think a woman votes based on the fact that someone else is the same gender as them (same goes for race), and not based on a wide variety of other reasons. They seriously need to stop being so closed-minded and superficial. I hope the pandering will be recognized as such. I think it's too transparent not to be obvious to anyone who still thinks for themselves.

Yes, but "thinks for themselves" is the operative phrase, here...and I'm not sure I give them that much credit...

I completely agree. My hope is that it will become glaring that this is what has happened.

My first thought was, "He pasted up Ridge for a cynical shot at the Hilary supporters"

You see, I think Ridge would have made much more sense for him...

I was going to mention this :-) Just have to clean it out well to make sure there's no taste-transfer.

Also, I have a very cute one-cup French press pot, perfect for office use. Might look for s'thing like that.

if I am working on campus in the future, feel free to ping me & see if I'm us for a road trip...

would you by chance be free to have coffee next week? In a somewhat "networking" type manner... I am, of course, trying to be gainfully employed again. Trying to find a good place for me to land.

Plus, it has been far too long since I had the pleasure of coffee & conversation with you

P.S. thank you for turning me to MAC. I may have found my perfect purple nail polish (perplexing).

how about a french press and some coffee in a solid seal small container. Enough for a cup but not so much it takes up a lot of room. So you have the technology to satisfy your cravings on demand.

the VP announcement is what I woke up to, today. And yeah... I believe they are trying to lure the Hilary proponents in a very blatant way. Bleh.

I dunno...

She's a Hockey mom... that just might get my vote.

Wait, is she a Leafs fan? Nevermind. Back to Plan 'A', powah to da proles bay-bee!

I have to say, my already-unkickable coffee habit has not been helped in any way by working for who I work for.

This is too funny. Shades of Clarence Thomas, except that Thomas had a track record and no ethics problems.
