Shallow Fashion Coveting: this is entirely the fault of [personal profile] icprncs

([personal profile] cupcake_goth Jul. 8th, 2008 12:32 pm)
I had no idea this catalog existed until [livejournal.com profile] icprncs posted about it, curse her.

Stripey jacket! (clicky-link!) The wrong colors, of course, but good lord, how pretty is that? (Very pretty, and you people know it.)

That's it. I need to find some b&w wide-striped silk, and commission a jacket from one of the many talented designers I know. Then it will be exactly what I want, and I'll be able to stop looking.

(Yesyes, I have the amazing and lovely Cupcake Gothic striped polonaise that [livejournal.com profile] kambriel created for me, and I grin and clap my hands every time I look at it. But that is a formal outfit, and I want an everyday striped silk jacket, too.)

(I swear, I do have other stuff to write about than shallow fashion wittering. It's just that the shallow fashion stuff can be written very quickly, while the other topics are things I want to spend some time on.)

You know, I don't see a lot of shape in that jacket and I really dislike the funky edging it has. It doesn't look like a ruffle, it looks ratty. :(

and I am ignoring the colors and the weird design over the stripes.

I do not think you would be Long Term happy with it. It just seems far too dowdy, to me.

Oh, I have no intention of buying that jacket. It's cute, but Not Quite What I Want.

I know you aren't going to buy it (the colors alone tell us that), it just doesn't seem to be as lovely as your post made it seem like you thought it was.

It is cute enough to bring on the big covet of The Right Thing, though. *sigh*

Well, *I* think it's awesome (and I love the trim, so there). It would look freakin' fabulous on ME. :P

heh, I think I would like it better for YOU if it had more VIOLET in it. :P But yes, it would look faboo on you.

Looking through the catalog, there are a number of pieces I like the design or idea of but the details are just off and the colors are a wee bit too brown to make me happy.

Part of the appeal of that jacket for me is that it's *incredibly* 18thC, even if it's not my best colors. It's really rare to see colors and fabric like that in modern fashion.

true, on all counts. That makes perfect sense to me.

that's an amazing find. it's even called the "silk EWARDIAN jacket." would never have thought to find anything like that from such a catalog.

From: [identity profile] icprncs.livejournal.com

Funny thing is, aside from the sleeve caps and the collar, it's not really Edwardian at all. The fabric, the colors and the trim are totally 18th century.

Ooh! I know ~ short version of the Isabella Coatdress! I just made one in a man's blazer style, complete with sleeve spats, and it looks great! Maybe something similar for you, but with princess seaming? Or... do you remember the jacket I did for Amanda Palmer earlier this year that sloped up in the front? (The one that was made from old curtains of hers?) Something like that would be cute.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll be able to come up with lots of options, but those are just some things to keep in mind as possibilities in the future :)

I liked the swancourt pima cotton jacket until I saw the price. Im sure its worth all the work that went into it but I just cant justify it. in arizona.

Same here. I really liked it until the price tag registered in my brain. Not to mention I'm almost certain I've seen very similar jackets on eBay for around $70.
