I broke a needle on my serger yesterday afternoon. It's a Janome MyLock 204D, and the manual says to use HA-1SP needles with it. I suspect that JoAnn Fabrics does not carry these. The semi-helpful munchkin on the phone at the JoAnn's I called said they did carry serger needles, but she couldn't see anything that said HA-1SP on the package.

Can I *only* use those specific needles with my serger? Google isn't giving me definitive information.

Pull the old needle and take it with you to JoAnn. The top of the needle shape is usually what determines the kind of needle. Some are flat and some are round. A clerk at the shop should be able to help you pick the right shape and size.

I suspect that they are an industrial needle, maybe? Is the shaft where it goes into the machine round or flat on one side? Also, how old is the machine? I have an older one that I cannot find needles for anywhere.

Anyway, I would look on a site like www.sewtrue.com for the needles

I also have a janome Mylock, Mine's a 644D, and it works fine with regular Schmetz machine needles, round on one side, flat on the other. Hmm...I'm not familiar with your serger, but if it's anything like mine, regular machine needles ought to work.

Good luck.
