Re-painted tea sets: Christine Misiak, who finds "old, worn forgotten tea sets and gives them a new lease of life." (clicky-link!)

Do you people have any idea how many battered silver-plated tea pots I have lurking in boxes? (Yes, I'm a packrat. What? Don't even try to pretend you didn't know that.) I'm guessing she used high-gloss spray paint, but I'm not entirely sure. Anyone have any other guesses?
...like I needed any other craft project ideas, oh dear oh dear ...

But if you are going to do a lot of this it might be worthwhile to get an old stove (and a 240 circuit) for the basement. Don't forget the ventilation fan.
Powder coating is not too expensive. I wouldn't think a tea set would cost more than $100 to $150 at a professional place.

1) high gloss spray paint is not food grade. It is actually toxic. So no spray painting anything you want to use with food, if you don't mind. I intend to keep you for a very long time.
2) most of the enamels that can be used for this type of work require a kiln.
3) you need a new craft project about as much as I do.
4) in order to get custom tea sets, you could actually take the less expensive route and purchase ceramic sets of your choice, and use ceramic paints that can be cooked in your oven (available at Michaels) to decorate them in whatever way you wish (little monsters dancing all over one, perhaps?... stripes on another maybe?), and it wouldn't be toxic either.

5a) a lot of tea sets are plated, so the paint could easily come off, and take the silver with it.

fun though this is, nifty as this is, I just don't think this is a sound project. :(
THAT said... I have some OTHER ideas that you might like... and could do fairly easily... with things you ALREADY HAVE. :D

Which is why, despite adoring you, living with you would eventually drive me to chop you up in your sleep and arrange the pieces alphabetically.

Then it would be pretty and shiny.
Mmmmmm I may need to paint some ceramic soon :)
