The MAC Originals contest ended yesterday. I remembered this, and decided to go look at the site for it to see if there were any announcements about winners. There was an announcement, all right:
NOTICE: The MAC Originals Contest has been modified in accordance with the Contest Rules. We regret that the MAC Originals Contest is unable to be executed as planned due to technical issues which affect the administration of the voting for the Contest. All eligible entries received will be included in a random drawing to award the prizes. Potential winners will be notified by February 15.
The modified rules text:
To Enter
Go to http://www.maccosmetics.com/originals (the "Entry Site"). Entrants must register to enter contest. Contest requires an upload of a photo, plus a 200 character description on why they are a "MAC Original". All entries on the site must be received by 11:59 PM EST on January 31, 2008. All "votes" must be received by 11:59 PM EST on February 8, 2008. Unless the entrant otherwise agrees, any information collected through the Contest shall be used only to administer the Contest in accordance with these Official Rules and applicable law.
So, they're not going with the most "popular" entry winning. How very, very interesting. But hey, that means I still have a faint chance of winning!

I'm upset because I want to see ONE of my first-choice candidates win this year. With Kucinich out, I was sort of counting on you. No, not Kucinich in drag... let's not start those rumors.
Tangentially on MAC: I got in too late to buy up a supply of their limited edition Black Karat kohl eye pencil. For some reason I had it confused with another, not so good black gold pencil which was glittery. STOMP STOMP STOMP. No, Black Karat is creamy dark gold, a perfect fine shimmer in black, no flakes. It makes my eyes glow, and melts into my pale olive coloring like candlelit velvet. I have ONE, from U Village.
I have one, and I should have gotten more when I could.
I'm trying to avoid eBay madness with such things, but it may come to that.
I'm also wondering if there's some motherlode of MAC, somewhere (Canada?) which may have limited edition stock. I'd like to avoid the scalpers.
I wish MAC would bring back "limited edition" items that sell well. Black Karat is 1,000,000 times better than the majority of their pencils. WHY would they crank out "Hyacinth" (boring medium blue) and discontinue Black Karat, THE perfect neutral black gold? Surely there is a market for it, so why do they limit it? Do they ever respond to customer pleas to make more of something?
