Could I talk one of you into going to the BPAL this coming Friday night (they're open from 7PM to 10PM.) You see, they have Beaver Moon 2007 available at the store for that night only, and I really do need more.

I would be able to email them and pre-order and pay for the bottles I want, I just need someone local to go pick them up and mail them to me.

Help help, anyone?

I am sure it is a lovely fragrance. But that is really an unfortunate name for a perfume. :)

Heh.

I feel compelled to remark that I take major issue with BPAL. I might feel differently if every one of, oh, thirty or so of their scents I've tried didn't come over all mothballs on my skin, but if I did find something of theirs I loved and found it so incredibly hard to come by (what, is it laced with cocaine?), I'd rip off the blend and have it made elsewhere immediately.

Ok, here comes the stupid "boy" question. I've seen all of you cavort and titter about BPAL amongst LJ's. Can someone explain it to me? Because I am LIKE SO TOTALLY LOST.

(It's okay. I've given BPAL money and I don't get it either.)

Jilli, if you can't find anyone else, I can pick it up for you. I know exactly where that is. My waffle comes from past my bedtime and Noah's too. But yeah, if no one else is chomping at the bit, I can go.

I go to every will call- and I'd love to do you that favor.

I just want the skinny on what it is, why it's so popular and who comes up with their names. :)

Opinions differ, but I'm a fan of BPAL because:

- They have a metric f*ckton of interesting perfume blends, a lot of which smell really nice on me
- They're very reasonably priced, when compared to mainstream alcohol-based perfumes
- They're oil blends, not alcohol - the scents mostly stay very close to my skin and don't gag people when I step onto a crowded elevator (I'd personally be very happy if all men stopped dousing themselves in nasty "for the love of all that is holy, water it down!" cologne and wore more subtle oil-based scents)
- It's a small business run by a woman who's smart, funny, friendly, ethical, creative, and well-trained in her field (unlike a lot of perfume oil companies, she has a lot of training in perfumery, and doesn't just randomly throw stuff together)

Not everyone is so keen on them. And some of their blends smell like crap (literally - anything with a civet note smells like poo to me). But hey, different strokes.

Oh, fantastic! Let me do some quick math and figure out how many bottles I want to order. Would you please give me your email addy, so I can send you all the details of what I'm ordering?

Thank you, Kat! It looks like someone will be able to go there for me, so you and Noah can go to bed at your proper time.

(And *man*, I wish I was local so I could see him and Grace! They're such darlings!)

Am I too late to volunteer? I'll go if you don't have someone.

Awww, thanks sweetie! It turns out that the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] lunakitten goes to every BPAL Will-Call, so she offered to pick up stuff for me.

I'm going for sure but it looks like many others have beat me to the volunteer sign up. :)

You can reach me at cdievendorf at yahoo dot com.

Now I want to meet the other BPALers on your f-list, if I haven't already.

Hi! *waves*

From: [identity profile] mskat.livejournal.com

Whew! Though I'd LOVE to go because I like yummy smelly things. But, I am broke and I am sleepy most times so it's prolly for the best.

I wish you were local too! I'm sure both Noah and Grace would love you.

But also there's a Pokemon-like element to the whole thing - it can be very compelling to try to collect them all, or as many as you can afford without having to sell organs* on the black market. Plus the descriptions of each scent are dark, beautiful poetry all on their own, which adds to the experience.

*Your own organs. I cannot condone kidney theft, even for BPAL.

From: [identity profile] arian1.livejournal.com

Ahh so I see. It's a masterful play on a) the goth market and b) the collecting market. (Ok, I know that sounds cynical)

I never knew the depths to which this was, but as [livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson reminds me, I don't have the "girl" gene. :)

One cannot overestimate the effectiveness of their descriptive prose. I have bought many a scent that was supposed to evoke dark, brooding, tortured romance that I would have passed right by if the description had more truthfully read: "Smells like fried howler monkey ass."

I'm seeing where there might be some confusion, which I want to clear up- will call is October 26th, according to the announcement on [livejournal.com profile] bpal_excathedra- next Friday, not this coming one.

Which is great, because that's a payday Friday, and this coming one isn't.

*toddles off to find a perfume addicts anonymous meeting*

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

You're right, I somehow thought that the will call was this coming Friday. Excellent! That gives me a bit more budget room!

I heard back from the will call peeps, and they said there will be no problem with having you pick up my order.

From: [identity profile] lunakitten.livejournal.com

Yeah, they're really cool about things like that- friends of mine have done it before.

Now I just have to convince myself that I don't really need to get much at this one- to save my money for the wonderful Yule blends.
