Yep, sick. Chills, aches, exhaustion, and a feeling like half of my brain has been removed. I'm working from home today, and will probably do so tomorrow. Because even if I'm feeling better, [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage is showing signs of coming down with this.

Which has not stopped him from going and fetching me tasty Mexican food (dear Gordito's, I love you, please never close) AND a bottle of Fernet, which many friends of mine swear by as a cold remedy.

Another cold remedy seems to involve being flopped on the couch with various configurations of cats snuggled up around me. Apparently all Tzepesh ever really wants is a person to curl up next to. I'm not complaining; I've missed having a giant black cat sleep on my feet and making my toes eventually go numb. (I'm not being sarcastic; Dread Beastie did that all the time, and I have missed it.)

Whoo, woozy. This is not fun. I'm especially cranky about this because the weather is being perfectly cool and overcast, and I don't feel well enough to go for a walk.

Wish I could work from home, but alas. And I can't stay home because we have too much going on. So I'm lurching around the halls, stupid and sullen.*

What on earth is Fernet? I could look it up, but the Internets are so far away.

*Yes, this is TOO different than usual, jokers.

Aha! Reminds me of Jagermeister. Which, when not being pounded in Black Bullets by metal bands, is sold in gas stations in Germany as a cold medicine. Or so I was told by the German bartender in the German inn in Germany, who pointed out to me that only Americans order it as a shot.

It tastes like the lovechild of Jager and absinthe. Without the (horrible) NyQuil undertones that Jager has. Fernet is not for everyone, this is true; the Stroppy One can't stand the stuff.

I now have a bottle, so the next time you're over, I can have you taste some.

Good thing I didn't have a burning desire to witter. Get well soon.

Axum, an Ethiopian joint near the Ave that closed long ago, once cured a cold of mine.

Please to get better soon.

...and yet another remedy, this one from days of yore:

Ingredients:
Tablespoon (or so) brown sugar.
tablespoon (or so) butter
A shot glass or two of scotch whiskey. Whisky. Whatever.

Process:
Start a kettle to boil water.

Mix the two together over lowish heat in a saucepan until it's liquid and the brown sugar is mostly dissolved.

Fill a coffee mug with hot water (to warm the mug)

Empty the warm coffee mug, dump the sugar mixture in, dump the scotch in, pour in boiling water, stir until things are dissolved.

Result:
This is quite good for colds and other such things. B has them throughout the winter when she is feeling the chill and damp in her lungs and it always helps.

Grandma used to do the same thing for me, but instead of brown sugar and butter, she used lots of honey and lemon. :)

Feel better. And stay snuggled under cats until then.

Poor girl! I hope the healing power of snuggly cat warmth will help you kick this quickly... Drink your peppermint tea.
