I'm betting the answer to this question is "No", but boy, I'd feel silly if I had been making the wrong assumption.

Is it possible to have the heels on a pair of shoes or boots completely changed? High narrow heels removed, and replaced with lower, more stable heels?

([livejournal.com profile] jola, I am blaming you for my thoughts along this line, because you keep reminding me that these boots exist, and ohgodohgod, do I covet them. Even though they're insanely expensive.)

Yes, but there's a limit to how much you can lower the heel -- past a certain point, you're going to a shape that the last wasn't designed to handle, and the arch support will break within a very short time. A good shoe repairman will be able to tell you how much you can reduce a heel.

Height is hard bec. it'll change the shape of the arch, as already noted. You might have more luck simply changing the shape of a heel -- say, swapping a straight block heel for a curved Louis heel of similar height. If it was on a pair of old shoes in your closet, I'd say it might be worth a shot. But I wouldn't want to buy a pair of new, expensive shoes w/the idea of changing the heel.

Of course you've been in lust with them, too! :) I'm starting to suspect our closets are eerily similar, and I VERY MUCH want to hang out with you. All we'd do is drink tea, eat cupcakes, and play dress up. :)

taking a sec to hijack Jillies journal....

LOVE the Fluevogs in your avatar. I own exactly one fourth of a pair of them right now. (yes, I'm saving for them. No more Starbucks runs or bought out lunches for me until then)

I've got the red heel in that style (there went my pat-on-the-head bonus from work) and wear them constantly. I work in a "suit" enviroment (most of my vintage fluevogs are a no go at work) and this is the only pair that my brooks-brothers former manager of Bergdorf Goodman flipped over and heartily approves of so I wear them CONSTANTLY. I hope to get away with these boots as well as I can only wear boots with slacks per dress code. :P

(now to make the hijack Jillie related)

My boss (not the gentleman addressed above but the shoe monger I report to) has a fabulous cobbler if you need one.

You wear an 8.5 to 9.5, right? I've got some black open toe fluevogs that lace up the leg that need a new home.

makes incoherent squee-ing noises

I wear an 8.5, and would be delighted to give any Fluevogs a good home. In fact, I think I should wear one of my pairs of Fluevogs to work tomorrow.

Sorry for the late reply to the comment. Mike swiped my laptop to go out of town with and I missed the notification.

I have a love/hate relationship with Fluevog. Love the shoes. Hate the way their sizing is inconsistent. I take any where from an 8.5 (if it goes wide in the toes and is flat) to a 10 (pointier boots/shoes) I average a 9ish.

I checked the black ones that I was going to look for a new home for and they are a 9.5 (Too cheap to pass up on Zappos...) and fit like that, so they are probably too big for you. One of the other pairs that I was going to find a new home for are these: (sorry - don't know how to do a clicky link)

These are a 9 but fit like an 8.5 . The pic is MUCH brighter than the shoes MHO. I think they are more of an eggplant and avocado color. I'll get them to you somehow if you are interested (along with BPAL I've been promising you)

I don't know if it'd be possible to drop the heel height, but mayhaps changing it into a wedge sole, if that's possible. That might reduce pain.

I just saw this...something so totally *you* I had to pop back over here. And hey, more affordable than the boots!
