Guess who is working from home today, due to feeling woozy, achey, and tired? Yes, that's a trick question. The real question is: is this "merely" PMS (merely! ha!), or is this me fighting off the current strain of the Ick that has been going around the office? I have no idea.

From the Oh, We Never Would Have Guessed, No, Really department: I've been window-shopping a bit. I really, REALLY like the Death's Head Moth cincher (clicky link!) from Louise Black .

Louise Black is a sister store to Dollflesh Clothing (clicky link!) and Eye Spy Eclectics. (clicky link!) All three stores are the brainchildren of [livejournal.com profile] candy_cain, who does fabulous, fabulous work. I have a couple of pieces by her, and am probably going to end up purchasing a few more over the next year or so. Such pretty things!

Before I indulge myself in pretty pictoral waist cinchers, however, I am probably going to purchase one of these jackets. (clicky link!) Yeah, I could probably make one myself, but it would be a lot of fussy work and I have other things I should be doing with my time. Not to mention I've been covetously eyeing that style of jacket for almost a year now.

Coming Soon to This LJ. Maybe: A post about my addiction to the trashy paranormal "dark" urban fantasy books. You know, that whole genre that is taking over the shelves at all the stores because every publisher is trying to find the next Laurel K. Hamilton. (But would be a better writer, ohpleaseohplease.) Yeah, I consider that whole genre to be trashy fun, but it's getting harder and harder to find good trashy fun books. The last couple I've "read" I've quit in the middle of. But yes, a longer post about that is rattling around in my brain. You Have Been Warned.

Ugh. Don't feel good. More tea now, please.

AAAGH!! You evil, evil creature. Must...have...coat...although I think I'll hang in there until she's got a 6/8 without pinstripe (my PayPal is already thanking me). But hot damn, what a gorgeous thing!!

Incidentally, quite a few people I know have been getting sick all of a sudden this week (myself included kinda). Maybe a bug floating around the Northwest?? Hope you haven't caught it & are feeling better soon!

Well, if they ever do find the next "Laurel K. Hamilton", let me know. Couldn't be much worse of a writer. The Anita series started out with decent stories but everybody including the sensitive love instrest and the female characters had serious male macho posturing bullshit issues. In the lsat couple I read, that was toned down but the amount of relationship angst had made the books unreadable and totally pushed out any story or plot that might have been involved. Reading her older books was painful but the story held attention and progressed, and they made good airplane books. In the last book, I skipped ahead in a long pointless discussion, went 50 pages forward and they were literally in the same room having the same discussion about who was going to sleep with who. I'll never buy another one of her books again.

All her relationships in her books are so messed up in SOD ways that I seriously wonder what traumatic events in her childhood made her so emotionally disturbed.

I bought some China Melville but haven't gotten around to reading them yet.

For tea, I suggest hojicha, a Japanese toasted green tea, but mostly because that's what I drink.

I just finished reading Hamilton's last two Blake novels. I don't think I can ever pick up anything of hers again. Of course, I've said that before, and then picked these up, thinking "Maybe she's gone back to having actual plot and action in the books!". Sadly, no.

And she had the balls to write an open letter on her website saying that people who don't like her books find them too hard, that the books make them think too much, and if you don't like them, you should go read something easy that doesn't tax the mind.

I almost spewed.

China Mieville is awesome.

Since you have some free time...

You MUST go check this out (http://the-isb.blogspot.com/2006/12/annotated-anita-blake-vampire-hunter.html). Trust me. Then follow the links to his other columns. And be sure to mouseover the pics to get the alt text.

BTW, the new Merry Gentry? Get it from the library or wait for the paperback. If LKH is going to keep charging hardback prices for this stuff, she's going to need to make the books longer. Feeling distinctly ripped off.

You know, for something that isn't really me, that pictorial waist cincher is awfully pretty. And that jacket! *dies* I just have to repeat to myself, 'It's probably too small. You don't have the money.'
