As some of you know, I like hats. I also dabble in millinery. So when I say that
feistydiva of Peacock Blue Design Studio makes beautiful things that are worth every penny of the price, you should probably pay attention.
I've been staring longingly at various things on the Peacock Blue site for a couple of years now, and finally decided to treat myself to the Mina hat (clicky link!) in black. (Yes, I know, the pink with black details is GORGEOUS and screams my name, but I was being sensible. Or at least as sensible as I can get about miniature top hats.)
The hat is beautiful. The quality of construction is amazing. When I said that I dabble in millinery, what that really means is that I'm a hobbyist who knows how much effort it takes to make a beautifully-finished hat, and usually cuts corners on my own work. The few times I have tried to make my own form for a mini top hat (as in, not start with a pre-made doll-sized hat), I've given up because it didn't work quite as well as I wanted it to. The Mina hat is exactly the sort of miniature top hat I have wanted for years, but have never been able to make by myself.
I know that some of you are blinking at the price. However, for the quality of materials, construction, and the time that obviously went into making the hat, $165 is not only a reasonable price, but a pretty good deal.
The same care and attention to detail was carried through in the packaging: the hat was carefully nestled into blue tissue paper (with the feathers wrapped so there was no danger of them being crushed or crumpled) in a black hat box, and then the hat box was put into a larger padded box for shipping.
Will I be ordering from Peacock Blue Design Studio again? Oh, you'd better believe it. I'll be ordering again, and I'll be writing a letter to Santa explaining how I've been VERY good this year, and I deserve a pink & black version of the Mina hat ...
