- Last night at dinner our waitress, after she stopped exclaiming over my outfit, turned to [livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage and said "So, you're an accessory?"

He replied, "No, I am the accessorizer."

- My minion at work is a good worker, and very cool. She left a freshly-packaged sachet of Yunnan Chinese black tea from Teahouse Kuan Yin on my desk this morning, yay!

- I think the October GCS column (which I'm going to be working on tonight) is going to be another look at Goth being simultaneously co-opted by mainstream fashion AND sneered at. With probably a long tangent about the growth industry that is "Goth" or "Gothic" -branded Hallowe'en accessories and costumes. (I am both bemused and horrified by this stuff, which is usually a good combination for me to write about.)

the accessorizer

I like that. It's much more menacing than "sex bomb defusal technician".

People who bestow random offerings of tea are good people. And I'm much looking forward to said GCS rant. :)

On the other hand, the growth Goth industry is making it possible for me to get fun velvet accessories on the cheap, as well as leading Wet'n'Wild to release some VERY fun Hallowe'en temporary tattoos.

Yep.

I can't shop in a Value Village or related store in the fall with out someone asking me where I got my goth costume. *Rolls eyes* I snickered at the quote in the article about the NEW fashionable black nail polish not being "too goth" or anything. Heaven forbid!

That's a very good theme. I can't flip the pages of a fashion magazine these days without reading something like : "Yes ! Wear all black, it's sooo fashionable this winter. But beware of the fashion faux pas of gothing yourself up !" - the "goth" look being then associated with chippy black nail polish, badly applied make-up and an overall disgracious behaviour...
This is getting really annoying. And the cheap(ish) goth-like clothes one can thus find everywhere mean I really spend too much. Baaaaad.

I had very mixed feelings too, when I was at Target and they had "Goth Costume" accessories, etc. On the other hand, I suppose it isn't any worse than having Doctor Costumes. I mean, imagine going through med school, internship, and residency and then seeing people running around in scrubs and masks using it as an excuse for crummy pickup lines about physicals?
