You would think that with the collection of parasols I have, not to mention the fact that I know how to re-cover using whatever fabrics strike my fancy, that my head would not be turned by someone selling modern parasols.
Yeah, I thought that, too. Until I discovered that there's someone who is making folding parasols and umbrellas with large-ish canopies. And is also making very nice handbags, some of which have loops to securely hold your folded-up parasol.

Pricey, yes. But very, very nice.

I *LOVE* my folding parasol and would not give it up for anything. If you use a parasol more often than not when you are outside, I would *highly* recommend getting a folding one. That price is actually pretty cheap for a brand new folding one. Most of the ones that are available are vintage and well over the $100-200 mark. I got lucky with mine, and got it inexpensively from someone on an lj comm, and was able to replace the top and it works beautifully.
I really like that idea for the purse with the holder. I have a drawstring bag that I made for mine and then put a strap on it so I can put it on with my small messenger bag (which now has pink ribbon, black venise lace and black bats on it). It looks a little like a quiver, but it amuses me, so it's ok. ;)
I would also recommend though, that if you get a folding parasol for everyday use, try to get one with a canopy that is smaller than an umbrella's and as close to the width of your shoulders but not wider. It makes life a lot easier when you need to use it in a crowd of peole (like an outdoor event, or a crowded sidewalk), and won't be poking people in the eye. ;)

I wasn't yet out of my morning fog when I first came across this post, and parsed "clicky link" as "clicky stick." I thought Princess Moonbeam had come across
the holy grailparasols with a clicky stick, long handled lighter, built into the parasol handle. Something like this, perhaps:From:
