Gaaah! The sun! THE SUN!!

(insert the standard Seattle goth-girl whinging about hot weather here.)

I'm discovering that it's not so much that I don't like the heat (and I don't, believe me), but being out in strong sunlight really does give me welts. Not a sunburn, but raised, itchy welts. It's a good thing I have a collection of parasols, that's for sure. Now where do I get my GothCard stamped for extra points?

---

The kitties are still overwhelmingly cute, and are showing signs of getting along better. Ruthven hopped up onto the couch with Trinian last night, and she only hissed a little bit, and didn't do anything else but sniff at him. Ruthven hopped down after a minute, but still! Progress!

Tzepesh is fascinated by running water; as soon as I start running a bath, he has to stand with his paws on the edge of the tub, watching. He also walks along the edge of the tub while I'm in it, but hasn't (yet) tried to walk on the water or jump on me. I bet it's only a matter of time, tho'.

By way of [livejournal.com profile] pennydreadful's journal, A faux fur stole.(Yes, that was a clicky link!) A faux fur stole made to look like a vintage fox stole complete with the head and tail. In bright pink. Of COURSE I want one. Well, I want a custom one in cupcake pink. But the little beady eyes! And the mouth that opens and closes! I could do little puppet shows with it to amuse myself! Why are you all backing away from me?

Coloring books are fun and silly stress relief. No, you get no other context.

I find a lot of problems get exacerbated by the sun/heat. I think it opens my pores for sweating and I get more alergins so my alergies always seem worse, and since grass is a big one, hot sunny days with everyone mowing is evil.

From: [identity profile] shoindiematrix.livejournal.com

*giggles* ^_^ Sounds cute to me. I'm a fan of fox stuff, so a puppet show sounds so very cute.
Sounds like I need to go to Seattle. People think I'm crazy for not liking the heat (and staying inside most of the day), here in Tennessee. Grr...I like the cool!
*wonders whether there are parasols for men*...hmm...

The words "cupcake pink" have made me smile. :)

I know how you feel about the sun. I've had problems with the sun since I was little. If I get to much of it, I get nauseous, light headed and get hives that look like giant welts. Too much fun.

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

I was planning to leave the info for the Princess, but it looks like you could use it too.

Folic acid helps your body process vitamin D. I have been taking extra of it every day for the last year, and it has made an ENORMOUS difference in teh amount of time I can spend in the sun (it doubled it!!! .... okay, that makes 20 minutes instead of 10.. but still DOUBLED!!!).

You might give it a try.

and sunblock sunblock sunblock.

and hydrate hydrate hydrate

From: [identity profile] shoindiematrix.livejournal.com

Oh wow! I was wondering how to prevent those same symptoms in me. Thank you very much for the info!

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

you bet. I am horribly allergic to vitamin D (enough that I have to watch the dairy intake as well as sun exposure), crazy sensitive to the heat, and light sensitive as well. And have been since I was born. Any shock that I am a night owl by default? Heh.

Being Goth is in my DNA. ;)

From: [identity profile] shoindiematrix.livejournal.com

Oh wow. That is quite scary to be allergic to that. I'm very sensitive to heat as well. Enough that, sitting in a car, during the summer, without heat, for around 5 or 10 minutes, will make me light-headed enough that I must head straight for bed.
Indeed, I can understand about night time. Especially in this blasted hot summer! *hehe* Yay for those of us who are just so goth. *lol*

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

heh. be sure you get enough salt, electrolytes, and water this summer. dehydration is ugly ugly ugly.

and be sure you are getting enough iron as well.

mmm vitamins. we do love them.

I have friends that love to go to Hawaii. I love the idea, but between the summer conditions and the flowers and pineapples..... yeah... Hawaii = hell to me. Total and complete Hell.

I want to take vacations to Scotland, England, and Wales. Maybe the netherlands or Germany in the Winter. ;)

mmm cold and dark and musty and damp. *sigh*

From: [identity profile] shoindiematrix.livejournal.com

Mmm...Cold, dark, musty, damp. Sounds like the perfect combinations for a lovely set of vacations. Much better than the islands.

I'll keep in mind that wide range of things, for sure. I've gone through the ugliness of dehydration, from sickness. Oh my, that stuff is beyond horrid.

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

dehydration is dreadful.

and remember that sunblock and parasols are totally your friend.

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

looks like you just need the ability to *shop* for such things.

try looking for an umbrella that fits this description

From: [identity profile] shoindiematrix.livejournal.com

Indeed, indeed. I'm sure I can find something similar. If not, I can simply re-cover a dark handled, small umbrella that I own.
Probably finding one would be much simpler. Certainly though, I will keep my eyes open.

if you can do it yourself, you can use whatever fabric you like. Including a dragon brocaded satin.

Hawaii = hell to me.

Really? :O I went there once and I would love to go back someday. It was so lush and green and beautiful. Also, the breeze coming off the ocean is so nice that it makes the heat less hot. There are also the most amazing rainstorms and the most beautiful rainbows afterwards. :)

I was surprised because I had always thought it was all beaches and hot, but it's more green and alive than even here. It also rains more than it does here.

So yeah. I have much love for Hawaii. ;)

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

I am extremely allergic to Lillies, and other flowers that grow wild all over Hawaii. And I am extremely allergic to pineapple, I can't have anything that has any in it. I have seen enough of the photos from friends trips there, and from when I worked at an office that had it's home officer there, to know there are flowers that make me ill *everywhere*.

From: [identity profile] girlgoth.livejournal.com

Ahh yes, it is a very lush and alive place. It is also very fragrant, so I could see why, if you were allergic to those things, it could be bad. :(

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

exactly. All those lovely fragrant flowers make it hard for me to breathe, and also make me nauseous. *sigh* It is soooo pretty in the pictures, but I shan't be setting foot anywhere near it.

From: [identity profile] sharkman-75.livejournal.com

Since I'm a red head, my body doesn't like the sun either. But I'll confess it's the heat too. Anything beyond (about) 80º is too much.

From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_good_kitty/

they're called Polymorphous Light Eruptions, which is fun to say but totally no fun to have. sun poisoning runs in my family, and PLE's are what the welty kind is called.

From: [identity profile] girlgoth.livejournal.com

I have those and no, they are not fun, and just 'eruptions' part of the name always squicks me out. I have found that Benedryl actually helps *a lot* if you get in the sun by accident and have them. Since it's an allergy, it makes sense, but I only found out out of desparation and not having many other items to choose from at home. ;)

I'm the only one in my family that has them, but I have a few other fluke nasties, so my doc just says I'm weird. :)

From: [identity profile] euterpe35.livejournal.com

totally down with the faux fur puppet show. I'd talk back to it :)

From: [identity profile] caliban1227.livejournal.com

Exactly what kind of coloring books are we speaking of.

From: [identity profile] debetesse.livejournal.com

Jilli's allergic to the Sun. **giggles**

Cat harmony progress is good.

Water Cat Tzepesh is also funny, at least as much because there is no way this story does not end up with a foray into the land of self-inflicted feline hilarity.

From: [identity profile] sistawendy.livejournal.com

1) Faux fur puppet show? It is to laugh. That cries out for Youtube.
2) Tomorrow I'm going to test the SPF 60 that you clued me into: it's time to reseal my deck. *Gulp.*
3) Florida has permanently warped my mind: running around in the glare & heat in next to nothing makes me happy. Ah cain't hep it. *hangs head in shame*

When I was about ten, I got to help Mom clean her bedroom closet. I ran across her fur stole that she had shoved back there and tried to forget. It was a pair of grey foxes that my dad had shot, taken to a taxidermist, and had clips mounted as the lower jaw and the left front paw of each animal. And, of course, the beady glass eyes. The piece had been in the non-temperature and humdity-controlled closet for a decade or more, and were losing fur like crazy. I thought they felt amazing, but I couldn't look into those little faces... And neither could Mom. I think she asked him to give them away, finally.

Maybe the obviously-fake ones would be fun.

From: [identity profile] cupcake-goth.livejournal.com

I'm fascinated by the vintage real-fur-stoles-with-faces that I run across at thrift stores, but can never bring myself to buy them, because, well, they were real breathing critters once, and I don't think I could deal with the little faces looking at me.

But faux-fur ones? It'd be like always having a stuffed animal with me! I could make it talk to people!

Yeah, I think I'm going to get one.

From: [identity profile] staxxy.livejournal.com

you know... I used to *teach* puppetry....

and EIn still has not outgrown his water fascination.

AAAAANNNNNDDD we love color books. I should bring my box with colors and books over sometime.

From: [identity profile] wormtorturer.livejournal.com

I clicked on the link. They are absolute cuteness.

So is the Bear Skin Rug... which comes in pastels, including your very own cotton-candy pink. I didn't look at the samples closely enough to see if they were the same sort of faux fur as the foxes and minks.

From: [identity profile] ex-pennydrea364.livejournal.com

I have a sweet 'misery/illicit' brand one which is black but has one eye in a baby pink button abd the other a pink cotton cross very sweet!
