cupcake_goth: (Beastie cat)

I wanted to show off the gorgeous icon of Dread Beastie that [livejournal.com profile] seresempre made for me. She's the genius behind my LJ background & style, and is very talented at that sort of thing.

In a few days, I'll probably post about our search for kitties, how we've realized that we don't want kittens, but young cats, and how visiting shelters make me yearn to turn into a Crazy Cat Lady. The short form is, we haven't found the right two cats to bring home yet, but we're going to put a lot of effort into looking for them.

(If I could give homes to every one of them I saw this weekend, I would.)

I have had amazing Cat-Fu with King Squish, so I will pass along some of that your way.

May your fur guardians make their way to you, quickly and easily!

We found Adriana via petfinder (http://www.petfinder.com). Most of the local shelters put their kitties up there, as well as organizations like Rescue Every Dog which doesn't have a single central shelters but is rather centered around foster homes.

Oh, I SO hear you on becoming a Crazy Cat Lady. I won't go into pet shops, I just want to open all the cage doors and set everybody freeeeee! And at shelters, yes, I just want to take them all home with meeee!

May the cat-contained spirits destined to travel with you make their presence known soon.

Meowies! Cute, cuddly balls of pure, flaming malevolence.

Ohhhh, cats.

What 'flavor' do you want?

I assume a pair of medium-haired, black boys with green eyes and stars on their chests?

Black with stars on their chests, or all black, or one black and one grey, and short-to-medium hair. Oh, and (of course) smart, and are affectionate and like people. (One of the cats we looked at this weekend was a sweetie, but thought every attempt at petting was the signal to grab your hand and start gnawing on it.)

Pete is scouring petfinder.com, and has pretty much decided he's going to look every day AND possibly call shelters that aren't on there.

When I was searching it was pretty typical for the websites to be just out-of-date enough that the cat that catches your attention on the site gets adopted a week or two before you drop in to the shelter.

There are a pair of brothers in Winthrop orphaned when the owner of the barn used their mother for target practice.

Black, one medium-hair / one short hair with long tufts, white patches on the chest, gold eyes. Born on October 15th.

$40 each for adoption fees. I have no idea where Winthrop is.

No no no! You *want* kittens! Well, okay, *I* want you to have kittens, which isn't necessarily the same thing. Why don't you want kittens? KITTENS, I SAY!

From: [identity profile] bork.livejournal.com

Kittens are adorable, agreed.

However, it's a good thing that the adolescents are being looked at. Everybody loves kittens when they're 1 lb and bouncing on your chest at 5am, it's less endearing when a 12 lb teen cat does the same thing. (Squish, I am looking at you.) The adolescents have all the energy of a kitten, but the body of an adult cat, and they can be challenging to raise at that age. Thus, they're much less adoptable.

Because we realized that our house is not an ideal house to raise & train kittens in. Kitten-proofing someplace is like babyproofing, but more so. Not to mention the basement is full of interesting nooks and crannies that a wee kitten could investigate and then possibly not know how to get out of, and the idea of THAT is the stuff that nightmares are made of.
