I don't want to be at work today. One of my co-workers carted me out of the building for a quick walk (she wanted company), and it is GORGEOUS outside. This does not make editing help topics seem very enticing. Yeah yeah, I know, everyone else in the Seattle area is going through the same thing. Doesn't make it any less valid, though.

Shallow Fashion Details!

[livejournal.com profile] stroppy_baggage wasn't terribly thrilled with today's outfit, but I really like it.

  • Black pointy-toe flats with zippers across the toes.

  • Pink & black stripy tights

  • The Lucy in Wonderland dress from www.dangerdame.com* (black, princess-seamed bodice, knee-length full skirt, with a pink satin mandarin collar that ties in a bow AND a pink satin ribbon at the waist that also ties in a bow), worn over a pink petticoat.

  • A black stretch velvet bolero with long sleeves, black point lace trim all the way around, and closes with a single black button.

  • Hair in two low ponytails, worn under the usual top hat.

  • Makeup is a light dusting of Alima mineral foundation, so-pale-it's-almost-white pink eyeshadow with darker pink in the crease, black liquid eyeliner, black mascara, and Vamp lipstick.

  • The usual big silver rings, and a silver ankh on a chain that sits jut below the bow on the collar of the dress.

* Hmmmm, the Danger Dame website is down, which means I can't link to the picture of the Lucy in Wonderland dress. How very odd.

The Stroppy One's objection to the outfit is that the dress is too "Fifties Housewife" for his tastes. The dress is based off of that era, yes, but I think the velvet & lace bolero, top hat, and stripy tights make it much more Alice in Wonderland-meets-Victorian Gothic.

I have been looking at more '50s/retro/swing/rockabilly dresses lately, this is true. But that's because those are the dress styles with the basic shape I'm looking for: fitted through the bust & waist, with knee-length skirts that are full enough for petticoats.

Nope, still no motivation. I guess I'd better find some Real Soon Now, because I do have an awful lot of work waiting for me.

I've always thought we should be able to declare spontaneous holidays on days this nice. I might even be willing to come in to the office on a dreary Saturday to...nah. That'd cut in too much on my already limited curling up under a blankie with a book time.

Check out Daddyos.com (I think that's the address). They have a wonderful selection of dresses.

Yay! I'm so glad the dress finally arrived (and just in time for such a lovely day). Does the LiW dress require sewing on some bats, or some lace, or some bat lace in order to satisfy the Peev? There are plenty of people who would find the look of this outfit irresistible, so nyah!

Motivation Boot Camp: Remember when you really really wanted to be a blue badge at T.E.E.? And how stressed you were and worried about work? Now you have this nice job. Don't screw it up--get back to work. This may sound harsh, but hey, it's the only thing keeping me tied to my desk right now. If I work, everybody works.*

*Some of you uncharitable souls might say that surfing LJ hardly qualifies as work. To that, I say, see Fiona's expression in the userpic: BLEAH TO YOU!

The dress is definitely 50s housewife. But I think the tights and the hat and the bolero would mitigate it somewhat.

There has been recent commentary about not wanting to be at work

A number of the Journals I have been trying to stay caught up on recently have had commentary about not wanting to be at work, as on the given day the day at work puked pink bunnies. And in most every instances the desire to be at the range shooting evil bowling pins, or some such was the mentioned "I would rather have been..." kind of statement made about the matter.

Why do I mention this? For some reason I see you with a glazed look to your eyes, with merry joy shooting. The kind of look you had the time the guy walked into The Mercury wearing The Crow makeup, and I gave you a wetnap.
