The week-long work event was good. The hotel/resort it was at was very nice, better for accessibility (no blocks-long walks on slippery marble to get to the correct elevator or escalator to take you where you need to go!), and wow, I saw a lot of trophy wives and older women who'd had really good plastic surgery. Why yes, it was that kind of resort.
The biggest thing I learned at the event was, of course, something I learned over food and drinks with people: MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE ENGINEERING MANAGERS. If you have a problem, especially a problem around gathering information and content, they will be appalled and figure out ways to create automatic mechanisms so work tickets will be added around "Hey, has anyone told the tech writers about this/given them info/have you written release notes?" that would be reviewed EVERY WEEK by Engineering. And feature work couldn't be marked as complete until those things are done. My G-D, I adore my engineering folks.
Both the CFO and the CEO stopped to say hi to me and compliment my outfits. That will never stop being weird.

A few months ago I watched the video "Age like a goth: esthetician skin care routine". It's by someone I know and trust, so it wasn't as weird a choice as it sounds. The result is I've completely changed my skin care routine because it made a lot of sense that I needed to hydrate my skin more. I've been doing it since November and have definitely seen good results. And I'm very glad I took travel containers of everything on my trip, because Arizona dryness + non-stop AC (thank G-D!) meant an incredibly arid environment.

Anyway, how are you peeps doing?

Part of the conversation:
[Engineering manager] "Wait, Jillian and the writers have to chase the PMs for information our customers need?"
[Engineering director] "Yes. They dishonor our vampire witch queen."
Both the CFO and the CEO stopped to say hi to me and compliment my outfits. That will never stop being weird.
