I'm having a bad brain day. Nothing OMG dire, just I can't think clearly, and PMS has wrapped me in a poisonous, depressive, smothering blanket. Things will be better tomorrow, and I know that. And from what I've seen around on LJ, some of the rest of you are having bad brain days. I Do Not approve of this general trend.

So, I offer distractions!

1900s vampire killing kit.

I am fascinated by antique (real and reproduction) vampire killing kits. They're a snapshot of a complex and mysterious set of folklore, neatly contained in a portable case. Owning a vampire killing kit is on my if I ever win the lottery list.
Firstly, a conversation via Twitter between myself and [livejournal.com profile] kambriel, about the vampire killing kit:

Kambrieldesign @CupcakeGoth What about the vampire protector kit ~ who's going to *protect* the vampires?! ;)

CupcakeGoth @Kambrieldesign My theory is the vampires are the ones creating/collecting them, as a form of protective coloration. ;)

(Yes, that's how my brain works.)

Secondly, I know that taxidermy is not everyone's thing, so I'll put the image behind a cut-tag. But if I were a fabulously wealthy eccentric, you'd better BELIEVE I would be purchasing this antique Victorian cage housing a preserved bat!

Bat! In an ornate cage! )

Mind you, I can almost guarantee that the Stroppy One wouldn't want me to have it displayed in the house. But oh! How I want it. Stamp my cliché card now, please.
